Notes: It is shown that the large deviations of the intermediate scattering function S(Q,t) from the prediction of the Rosue model as observed for polyisobutylene (PIB) chains in the melt cannot be explained by the stiff chain model. By presenting new data on polydimethylsiloxane with the same structural parameters but low internal barriers which follow the Rouse prediction over the full Q-range, the conclusion is reached that the PIB dynamics is slowed down by internal friction. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: This paper presents the first neutron scattering measurement of 1,2-1,4-polybutadienes with varying microstructure. Incoherent inelastic scattering experiments have been performed in the range of moderate (ΔE≈300 μeV) and high (ΔE≈20 μeV) energy resolution. For the moderate resolution experiments the vibration–relaxation model has been used as a guideline for interpretation. The most striking influence of the microstructure variation can be found in the position of the boson peak. Its position at low temperature as well as its temperature dependence is significantly different among the measured samples. The high resolution data have been Fourier transformed into the time domain yielding the intermediate incoherent scattering function in a time range of 5,...,150 ps. There, the basic properties found for 1,4-polybutadiene earlier could be reproduced (separation of α and βslow regimes of the slow relaxation, Kohlrausch–Williams–Watts function with β≈0.4). On the basis of the new data, no microstructure induced differences can be detected except for the changes of temperature dependence due to the strongly different glass-transition temperatures and different fragility. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Description: Feedstock recycling of secondary raw materials is the backbone of the Circular Economy (CE). The efficient recovery of resources, energy, along with achieving minimal environmental impact is mandatory for the successful realization of CE. Chicken manure is an interesting waste stream due to its content of nutrients, in particular of phosphorus, which makes it a suitable feedstock for fertilizer applications. However, the contamination caused by antibiotics, organic pollutants, and sanitary aspects demand the manures treatment before further recycling. Thermochemical treatment based on intermediate pyrolysis targets decentral application to produce carbonized solids for fertilizer application. This work evaluated pyrolysis char from the pyrolysis of chicken manure in comparison to the original feedstock using state-of-the-art thermal treatment, i.e., combustion in grate furnaces. The samples were evaluated in terms of chemical and mineralogical composition by applying several analytical techniques. Bio-availability of the main nutrients (NPK) was assessed by adopting standard methods. Additionally, the effect on toxicity was discussed by means of heavy metals analysis, as well as of pot tests. Results showed, that pyrolysis had a far more positive effect on nutrient availability compared to combustion, and it provided a suitable method for the thermal treatment of contaminated feedstocks.
