Description: Several samples collected from lakes, rivers and reservoirs in Haihe river basin of China were analyzed for 8 sulfonamide antibiotics by using solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). All water samples were enriched with HLB extraction cartridges. The antibiotics were separated by gradient elution with methanol as the mobile phase adding 0.1% formic acid. The eluate was then analyzed by the mode of multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.4-1.0 ng/L and 1.0-3.0 ng/L respectively. The method was used for the analysis of 13 samples from Haihe river basin in China. The results showed that sulfamethoxazole was present in all water samples with maximum concentration of 107.59 ng/L. Sulfadiazine was also frequently detected, concentrations ranging from 2.81 ng/L to 85.35 ng/L. Other sulfonamide antibiotics were not detected in most water samples, especially for those samples fr...

Description: To investigate effects of the rotation of summer catch crops on remediation retrogressed soils in continuous cropping, a field experiment was conducted. Rice, water spinach, or cress were selected as summer catch crops; bare fallow during summer fallow was used as the control group. Results showed that aquatic crops grown in summer fallow period could effectively reduce soil bulk density and pH, facilitate soil nutrient release, and improve soil physical and chemical properties compared with those grown in fallow period. Paddy-upland rotation could improve soil microbial members and increase bacterial and actinomycete populations; by contrast, paddy-upland rotation could reduce fungal populations and enhance bacterium-to-fungus ratio. Paddy-upland rotation could also actively promote activities of soil enzymes, such as urease, phosphatase, invertase, and catalase. The proposed paddy-upland rotation significantly affected the growth of red pepper; the yield and quality of the gro...

Description: The cyclone separator has attracted increasing attention due to its small size, rapid construction and high separation efficiency. This study investigated its gas-liquid two-phase flow and separation characteristics experimentally and numerically. A numerical model of two- phase flow in the cyclone separator was proposed using the Euler-Lagrange method. The distribution of pressure, tangential and axial velocity in the gas-phase flow field was obtained, and the oil droplet movement was traced. Separation efficiency was also studied experimentally, and the diameter distributions of oil droplets at the inlet and the outlet of the separator were measured by a Malvern laser particle size analyser to verify the simulation model. Based on high-speed photography technology, the oil film distribution and flow pattern on the wall of the cyclone separator were visualised. The variation of oil-gas two-phase flow in the cyclone separator was compared under various inlet flow rates. Based on ...

Description: Porous Si 3 N 4 ceramics were produced by the initial Si 3 N 4 powder added different amounts of β-Si 3 N 4 powder. The density, porosity and flexural strength were tested by the methods of Archimedes method and three-point bending measurements, respectively. Phase composition and microstructure of Si 3 N 4 ceramics were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Fibrous β-Si 3 N 4 grains developed in the porous microstructure. The grain morphology and size were affected by adding different amounts of β-Si 3 N 4 powder. Fibrous β-Si 3 N 4 grains dispersed in the porous Si 3 N 4 ceramics uniformly with the length of 4~10μm, the average diameter of 0.6μm and average aspect ratio of 7 were obtained. Adding 3 mass% β-Si 3 N 4 powder, porous Si 3 N 4 ceramics with excellent pro...

Description: Tubular turbine running environment will be affected by ocean tidal wave, under the influence of the tidal wave, the hydrodynamic performance of the tubular turbine and its water-energy conversion efficiency have become the focus of our research and discussion. This paper explores the mechanism of wave-current coupling under surface fluctuations, considering the influence of tidal wave flow and gravity influence in flow field and flow characteristics of tubular turbine. The study on the performance of the influence of hydraulic characteristics of tubular turbine under the condition of wave flow has been carried out. Results show that the wave flow conditions with considering gravity leads to mechanical runner blade be damaged by tidal wave of pressure fluctuation and cyclic extrusion, causing more serious than fatigue stress damage than no wave flow condition does which make this kind of fluid machinery practical fatigue life is reduced greatly. The condition of the wave flow co...

Description: An intake duct for a waterjet system is treated to improve the hydraulic efficiency and the outflow nonuniformity together with its perpendicularity. A multi-objective optimization strategy is proposed by incorporating with design of experiments (DOE), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), inverse design method, Kriging model and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). Optimal Latin hyper-cube design method is used in DOE to uniformly sample in variation ranges, and global optimization is then conducted by using NSGA-II based on the input-target approximation functions approximated by the Kriging model. Instead of randomly selecting one solution to implement, a technique for ordering preferences by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is introduced to select the best compromise solution (BCS) from pareto-front sets. Compared with the original duct, the optimized intake duct has a much better outflow quality at the design operation point with a comparative hydraulic ...

Description: The analytical investigation of the rotor dynamics system in large vertical volute pump is presented in this paper. The radial force imposed on impeller is a time-independent value which is extracted from the numerical simulation results. A three-dimensional finite element analysis of the pump rotor was performed to investigate the critical speed and mode shape. The transient response of the rotor dynamics is studied by analysing radial excitation force at variable flow conditions. In addition, the stiffness and damping of the bearings are calculated by Software ARMD. The result shows that the resonance of pump will not occur under design condition. The radial displacement of monitoring point at impeller presents periodic variation when the time-independent radial force is imposed on impeller.

Description: The performance of the smart electric energy meter deteriorates during the operation, which will affects the accuracy of energy metering. In order to estimate the smart meter’s error during the operation, a method based on parameter degradation model is proposed. The meter’s degradation parameters and degradation acting parameters are determined, aiming at building parameter degradation model and putting forward error estimation constraint. Big data analysis methods are adopted in the process of solving degradation network. As the data are of multiple categories and data changing rates are variable, pre-processing method of differential normalized data is employed. Additionally, feed-forward neural network is adopted to approximate degradation characteristics, because elementary function is incapable of describing degradation network. Therefore, the smart meter’s error can be estimated according to the error estimation constraint, assuming degradation acting parameters pre-deter...

Description: Receptor Activator of NF-κB (RANK) and RANK-Ligand (RANKL) are members of the Tumour Necrosis Factor (TNF)-superfamily involved in bone homeostasis. In a tightly controlled interplay of this receptor and ligand, bone is continuously being remodelled. Several pathological conditions resulting from a misbalance between bone resorption and bone formation have been documented. Most frequently resorption gets the overhand resulting in a lower Bone Mineral Density (BMD), increased fracture risk and reduced mobility of patients. RANKL is expressed on bone producing osteoblasts whereas RANK is expressed on preosteoclasts, which can develop in bone resorbing osteoclasts. The binding of RANKL to RANK functions as a trigger for the formation of these bone resorbing osteoclasts. With the development of a monoclonal antibody directed against RANKL a new therapeutic strategy to interfere with bone remodelling has become available some years ago. In this manuscript we discuss the prospective o...
