Description: The preparation and properties of high refractive index nanocomposite material were studied. The TiO 2 nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel method using acetic acid as a chelating ligand. The nanoparticles were dispersed directly into the polymer matrix to prepare transparent high refractive index nanocomposite thin films. The refractive index of films will be enhanced with the increase of titania contents. The particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. The results showed that all samples with different amounts of TiO 2 exhibit good optical transparency. Furthermore, the pattern of the TiO 2 NPs shows a pure anatase phases. From TEM image, the TiO 2 has little agglomeration. The FT-IR spectrum indicated that acetate ions and titanium ions show good chelation.

Description: A simple Urea Homogeneous Precipitation (UHP) method was employed to synthesize bifunctional core-shell nanoparticles of Fe 3 O 4 @Gd 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ . X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were used to characterize the structure, morphology, luminescence and magnetic properties of the composites, respectively. Results show that the nanocomposites possess both luminescent and magnetic properties, thus the synthesized nanoparticles may find potential application in the area of biomedicine, such as drug targeting, fluorescence label and cell separation.

Description: The traditional current integral method for the state-of-charge (SOC) estimation has an unusable estimation accuracy because of the current measuring error. This paper proposed a closed-loop temperature compensation method to improve the SOC estimation accuracy of current integral method by eliminating temperature drift. Through circuit simulation result in Multisim, the stability of current measuring accuracy is improved by more than 10 times. In a designed 70 charge-discharge experimental circle, the SOC estimation error with temperature compensation had 30 times less than error in normal situation without compensation.

Description: Systematic cold biases exist in the simulation for 2 m air temperature in the Tibetan Plateau (TP) when using regional climate models and global atmospheric general circulation models. We updated the albedo in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model lower boundary condition using the Global LAnd Surface Satellite Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer albedo products and demonstrated evident improvement for cold temperature biases in the TP. It is the large overestimation of albedo in winter and spring in the WRF model that resulted in the large cold temperature biases. The overestimated albedo was caused by the simulated precipitation biases and over-parameterization of snow albedo. Furthermore, light-absorbing aerosols can result in a large reduction of albedo in snow and ice cover. The results suggest the necessity of developing snow albedo parameterization using observations in the TP, where snow cover and melting are very different from other low-elevation r...

Description: ZnO hexagonal bilayer disk-like microstructures are successfully fabricated using a simple solvothermal method assisted with surfactant. The structure and morphology were investigated by XRD, SEM, and EDS. XRD result indicated that the as-obtained samples were well-crystallized wurtzite hexagonal ZnO structure. SEM images showed that the ZnO hexagonal bilayer disk-like assembles consist of two uniform and smooth disks with an average edge length of 6 μm and thickness of ∼4 μm. UV–vis spectrum reveals that ZnO sampls show an appreciable red shift and the band gap energy of the obtained ZnO samples were about 3.15 eV. A very strong UV emission at the ultraviolet (UV) region was observed in the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of the as-prepared ZnO samples tested at room-temperature. A possible growth process of the ZnO hexagonal bilayer disk-like microstructures was schematically illustrated.

Description: Atomic layer deposition (ALD) has been accepted as one of the optimal methods for dielectrics growth but it is challenging for ALD to deposit dielectrics on graphene due to its chemically inert property. In this work, Gd 2 O 3 films were grown on graphene directly by atomic layer deposition with assistant of pre-H 2 O water treatment. In addition, we investigated the effects of rapid thermal annealing (RTA) on microstructure, optical and electrical properties of Gd 2 O 3 films on graphene. Raman spectroscopy showed no defects were introduced into graphene during the ALD or RTA processes. The adhesion of Gd 2 O 3 films on graphene was enhanced and the crystalline of Gd 2 O 3 was improved. In addition, the relative permittivity of Gd 2 O 3 on graphene is 14.5 and its EOT can be down to 5.4 nm. This technique may expand the application of graphene in microelectronic devices

Description: In this paper, Gas-liquid two phase flow mathematic models of incompressible fluid were proposed to explore the feature of fluid under certain centrifugal force in vertical centrifugal casting (VCC). Modified projection-level-set method was introduced to solve the mathematic models. To validate the simulation results, two methods were used in this study. In the first method, the simulation result of basic VCC flow process was compared with its analytic solution. The relationship between the numerical solution and deterministic analytic solution was presented to verify the correctness of numerical algorithms. In the second method, systematic water simulation experiments were developed. In this initial experiment, special experimental vertical centrifugal device and casting shapes were designed to describe typical mold-filling processes in VCC. High speed camera system and data collection devices were used to capture flow shape during the mold-filling process. Moreover, fluid chara...

Description: Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) are potent mutagens that formed at high temperature in cooked, protein-rich food. Owing to their frequent intake, an accurate method is essential to access human health risk of HAAs exposure through detecting these compounds in various heat-treated meat products. In this study, a liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (LC--ESI-MS/MS) method was developed to perform the determination of 9 mutagenic heterocyclic amines (HAAs) in meat samples with multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. Ultrasound assisted extraction and diatomaceous earth was employed to extract HAAs from food samples, and the analytes were purified and enriched using tandem solid phase extraction, with propyl sulfonic acid coupled to a C18 cartridge. Two parameters, extraction time and eluent, were carefully optimized to improve the extraction and purification efficiency. The LC separation was carried out using a Zorbax SB-C18 (3.5 μm particle size, 2.1 × ...

Description: The Large Eddy Simulation method with sliding mesh technique has been used for analyzing the unsteady flow in an axial-flow pump at five different flow rates. The tip leakage flow in the tip-gap region and the pressure pulsations on the blade surface were examined. The results indicate that the agreement between predicted pump performance and experimental data was reasonably good. The dominate tip-leakage vortex(TLV) extended to the pressure side of the neighboring blade for all five investigated flow rates. As the flow rate increases from 0.7Qd to 1.2Qd, the angle between the dominate TLV and the blade reduced from 20 deg to 14 deg. The results also showed that the amplitude of pressure fluctuation on the near-tip zone of the blade surface increases as the flow rate farer from the design flow rate, especially on the pressure side of the blade. At the 0.7Qd operation condition, the pressure fluctuation amplitude of the monitoring point PP3 (at the near-tip zone on the pressure s...
