    Description: Effect of Ca-doping on the ionic conductivity of LiSi 2 N 3 was studied. The compositions of Li 1-2x Ca x Si 2 N 3 (x=0-0.2) were synthesized by the reaction of Li 3 N, Si 3 N 4 , and Ca 3 N 2 at temperature of 1873K-2073K. Ca was incorporated into the LiSi 2 N 3 host lattice and formed the solid solution, Li 1-2x Ca x Si 2 N 3 . Activation energy for ionic conduction was decreased and ionic conductivity at room temperature was enhanced by Ca doping. At 298K, the ionic conductivity of densified Li 1-2x Ca x Si 2 N 3 (x=0.075) ceramics achieved 1.6×10 −5 Sm −1 , almost 4 orders of magnitude higher than that of densified Li 1-2x Ca x Si 2 N 3 (x=0) ceramics (3.1×10 −9 Sm −1 ).     Description: Mg 2 Si is a promising thermoelectric material because it is composed of non-toxic and "ubiquitous" elements, and development of an efficient production process for bulk Mg 2 Si is important for the fabrication of thermoelectric devices. The mechanofusion (MF) process, which is an attrition type milling process, is attractive in terms of ease of use and collection of powder materials, in addition to a reduced risk of contamination since it requires no milling medium. In the present study, the MF process was applied to produce Mg 2 Si powder, and pulsed electric current sintering (PECS) was then used to densify the powder. The density, microstructure and thermoelectric properties of the final bulk product were evaluated.

    Description: A project to import a large amount of liquid hydrogen (LH 2 ) from Australia by a cargo carrier, which is equipped with two 1250 m 3 tanks, is underway in Japan. It is important to understand sloshing and boil-off characteristics inside the LH 2 tank during marine transportation. However, the LH 2 sloshing and boil-off characteristics on the sea have not yet been clarified. First experiment on the LH 2 transportation of 20 liter with magnesium diboride (MgB 2 ) level sensors by the training ship “Fukae-maru”, which has 50 m long and 449 ton gross weight, was carried out successfully inside Osaka bay on February 2, 2017. In the experiment, synchronous measurements of liquid level, temperature, pressure, ship motions, and accelerations as well as the rapid depressurization test were done.
