    Description: The current study investigates the temperature distribution, stress analysis and material removal of aluminum oxide work piece. Temperature distribution of Aluminum Oxide work-piece when a laser beam (of laser cutting machine) is focused on it to create a micro groove as a part of machining process. Present Demand of industry currently focus on ceramics because of its vast and potential use in many fields such as vehicle sector(automobile), aerospace and bio-medical engineering applications, etc. As part of machining process, a micro groove needs to be created on a crude design material. Aiming at this, a laser cutting machine is employed to create a micro groove which works on a principle that when a high power laser beam is focused on a surface of the body, material gets removed as a result of large amount of heat energy released by the laser beam.     Description: This paper is focused on drilling of K-60 alumina ceramic using various grades of hot abrasives at different temperatures with pressurized and fluidized bed abrasive jet machining (FB-AJM) process. The fluidized bed mixing chamber, pressurized powder feed system, and abrasive heating chamber are fabricated and modified to study the effects of different machining parameters, like, pressure, standoff-distance, grain size, and temperature on material removal rate and taper angle. Box Behnken Design of Response Surface Methodology is used to study the parametric effect on responses. Finally, a single experiment is performed at the predicted optimal condition, obtained from the multi-response particle swarm optimization to validate the model.

    Description: Nano fluids are stable suspensions of nano particles in a liquid. Metal oxide nanoparticles offer great merits over controlling rheological, thermal, chemical and physical properties of solutions. The effectiveness of a nanoparticle to modify the properties of a fluid depends on its diffusive properties with respect to the fluid. An important application of Nano fluids containing nano particles is as a coolant, since the addition of only a few volume percent of nano particles to a liquid coolant and significantly improves its thermal conductivity.     Description: Arsenic is a highly toxic and carcinogenic metalloid. Rice is a staple food that is widely used in the world, especially in Indonesia. Several studies have shown that arsenic level in rice is influenced by the environment and genetic differences of rice. The process of cooking in raw rice may reduce arsenic level in rice. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of cooking process using demineralized water and tap water on arsenic contents in rice. The samples used were white rice ( Oryza sativa L), brown rice ( Oryza rufipogon ), “brown” rice ( Oryza punctata ) and black sticky rice ( Oryza sativa var glutinosa) obtained from several traditional markets in Medan.     Description: Serious environmental problems by means of increasing the production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), which is conventionally used as the primary binder to produce cement concrete. An attempt has been made to reduce the use of ordinary Portland cement in cement concrete. There is no standard mix design of geo-polymer concrete, an effort has been made to know the physical, chemical properties and optimum mix of geo-polymer concrete mix design. Concrete cubes of 100 x 100 x 100 mm were prepared and cured under steam curing for about 24 hours at temperature range of 40°C to 60°C. Fly ash is replaced partially with rice husk ash at percentage of 10%, 15% and 25%. Sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate are of used as alkaline activators with 5 Molar and 10 Molar NaOH solutions.     Description: Human hair is a biological fiber with well characterized microstructure. It has many unique properties like high tensile strength, thermal insulation, unique chemical composition, elastic recovery, scaly surface etc. But due to its slow decomposition, it creates many environmental problems. Although a number of utilization avenues are already in place, hair is still considered as a biological waste. In view of this, the present work makes an attempt to explore the possibility of fabricating a class of polymer composites reinforced with short human hair fibers. Epoxy composites with different proportions of hair fiber (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 wt.%) are prepared by simple hand lay-up technique.     Description: Aluminum based abradable coating is used for sealing purpose in compressor casing of aero engines to withstand up to a service temperature of 450°C. Al-BNSiO2 composite coating is deposited using thermal plasma spray technique. Coating thickness measured and porosity of the coating is evaluated.Coating morphology is observed and EDSanalysis is done with SEM (Jeol make). The effect of time on the sea water corrosion behavior of the coating is evaluated. It is observed that, there is a sharp increase in weight gain of the coating up to six weeks of immersion. This behavior is attributed to the adsorption/deposition of other elements/reactions taking place during interaction with sea water.

However, most of the existing product such as maternity pillows are still designed based on companies’ perspective. This study aims to capture the desire of pregnant women toward maternity pillow desired product by using kansei words and analyze the optimal design with Taguchi method. Eight collected kansei words were durable, aesthetic, comfort, portable, simple, multifunction, attractive motive, and easy to maintain. While L16 orthogonal array is used because there are three variables with two levels and four variables with four levels.     Description: This paper aims to analyze the utilization of Riau Province Government assets. Assets that become the object of analysis is the use of post house PON homestead area. The research target provides input to the Government of Riau Province in the utilization of assets to be managed properly. The research was conducted by qualitative method. Stages performed in this study include (1) review existing policies, (2) interviews with some sources who become the reference branch marking, (3) give input to the government from the results of research. Research results shown that the athlete’s homestead is used for boarding the athletes with no rental fee. However, for the maintenance cost of Wisma Athletes, it is necessary to optimize its utilization policy by renting out multipurpose rooms such as for meetings, seminars and so forth, renting out kiosks in the Wisma Athletes environment for various businesses and reviving the athlete’s homestay area as a sports center.

    Description: Different types of erosion resistant coatings are applied/deposited on aero components, depending on the operating/working temperatures. Nickel based coating are applied on the air craft (compressor) components, which can sustain up to working temperature of 650°C. In the present investigation, to improve the compatibility between substrate (i.e. the machine component) and the top coat, application of bond coat is there. The application of Nickel based coating by thermal plasma spray technique has proven to be a satisfactory means of producing acceptable sealing surface with excellent abradability. Before the corrosion study, coated sample is subjected to hardness, thickness and porosity testing. Hence the result is being evaluated. The corrosion behavior of coating was studied by sea water immersion with a time period of 16 weeks.
