Description: The ITER Central Solenoid (CS) coils utilize cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) and the conduit alloy is JK2LB. The production grade conduit alloy (and it's welds) must meet strict requirements for strength, toughness, fatigue crack resistance, and fabricability. The conduit alloy must retain good mechanical properties after additional fabrication steps such as welding, coil winding strain and exposure to the Nb3Sn superconductor's reaction heat treatment. Here we present data from cryogenic tensile, fracture toughness, fatigue crack growth rate, and axial fatigue tests of JK2LB alloy and conduit butt welds, before and after the exposure to the reaction heat treatment. The tests of specimens removed directly from the conduit provide confirmation of the materials properties and the effect of the cold work and aging. The 4 K fatigue performance is extremely important to the reliability of the CS and is covered both by axial cyclic fatigue tests and the fatigue crack growth rate meas...

Description: An inductively coupled plasma reactor driven by continuous wave (cw) or pulse source with dc bias is introduced to investigate the plasma parameters and ion energy distributions using COMSOL and compared with experimental results. The results show that with the increase of pressure, the electron density varies from 4.5×10 11 cm -3 to 16.7×10 11 cm -3 , and electron temperature is in the range of 3.3eV to 3.9eV. For pulsed power, the change of electron temperature is corresponding to the duty cycle of pulse power. With the dc bias, the ion energy peaks shift from 8eV to 19.5eV, and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the IEDs varies in the range of 0.5eV to 2.7eV. Finally, application of a synchronous dc bias in the afterglow of pulsed plasma leads to a bi-modal IEDs with a sharper peaks at lower energy during the afterglow and a broader peak at higher energy when the power is on.

Description: For connecting Aluminum Alloy bus body aluminum components often occur the problem of failure, a new aluminum alloy connection structure is designed based on multi-objective topology optimization method. Determining the shape of the outer contour of the connection structure with topography optimization, establishing a topology optimization model of connections based on SIMP density interpolation method, going on multi-objective topology optimization, and improving the design of the connecting piece according to the optimization results. The results show that the quality of the aluminum alloy connector after topology optimization is reduced by 18%, and the first six natural frequencies are improved and the strength performance and stiffness performance are obviously improved.

Description: Nowadays, more and more people are beginning to use hybrid vehicles (HVs). The drive system of HVs needs to produce the electric energy with the electric generator and gearbox powered by an engine. Therefore, the structure becomes complex and the cost is high. To solve this issue, this research proposes a new drive system design that combines the engine and a linear switched reluctance generator (LSRG). When the engine is operating, the LSRG can simultaneously assist the engine’s mechanical output or can generate power to charge the battery. In this research, three research steps are executed. In the first step, the LSRG is designed according to the size of normal engine. Then, finite element analysis is used to get the data of flux linkage and calculate the inductance and translator force. Finally, Simulink models of control system are constructed to verify the performance of LSRG.
