    Notes: The species saturation hypothesis in ground-dwelling ant communities was tested, the relationship between local and regional species richness was studied and the possible processes involved in this relationship were evaluated in the present paper. To describe the relationship between local and regional species richness, the ground-dwelling ant fauna of 10 forest remnants was sampled, using 10 1 m2 quadrats in each remnant. The ants were extracted from the litter by using Winkler sacs. Using regression analyses, an asymptotic pattern between local and regional species richness was detected. This saturated pattern may be related to three processes: (i) high interspecific competition; (ii) habitat species specialization; or (iii) stochastic equilibrium. It is concluded that non-interactive processes, such as stochastic equilibrium and habitat specialization may act as factors regulating species richness in this community. The predominance of locally restricted species, in all sampled remnants, seems to indicate the occurrence of a high degree of habitat specialization by the ant species. This result is evidence for the hypothesis that community saturation has been generated by non-interactive processes. Although ants are frequently described as highly interactive, it is possible that interspecific competition is not important in the structuring of ground-dwelling ant communities.

    Description: The article describes the stages of the methane fermentation process. The phases of methane formation are characterized. The results of the experimental data based on the study of various factors influencing the rate of biogas production and its yield are presented. Such factors as the size of the substrate particles and temperature conditions in the reactor are considered. It is revealed on the basis of experimental data which of the farm animals and poultry excrements are exposed to the most complete fermentation without special preparation. The relationship between fermentation regime, particle size of the feedstock and biogas yield is graphically presented.

    Description: Fresh water use is one of the nine planetary boundaries that must not be transgressed if the earth must continue to exist. Climate change has necessitated the need for conservation of natural resources, including fresh water. Infrastructure provision for recycling water is one thing: accepting to use the recycled water is another. This paper assessed residents’ perception on recycled water use. It adopted a qualitative research design. Findings reveal that residents are willing to use recycled water, however, motivations of residents to use recycled water is different from the motivations suggested by the scientific community which focuses on climate change issues such as drought and conservation. The study recommends that water authorities should possess the required competencies for treating recycled water so that health risks associated with the use of recycled water can be minimized.

    Description: In this work, we investigate the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of the Apollonius type additive functional equation in modular spaces with or without Δ 2 -conditions. We study the same problem in fuzzy Banach spaces and β -homogeneous Banach spaces. We show the hyperstability of the functional equation associated with the Jordan triple product in fuzzy Banach algebras. The obtained results can be applied to differential and integral equations with kernels of non-power types.
