Description: A two-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method (LBM)-cellular automaton (CA) model is developed for the simulation of dendritic growth and bubble formation during alloy solidification. In the model, a kinetic LBM, which describes flow dynamics through the evolution of distribution functions of moving pseudo-particles, is adopted to numerically solve the gas-liquid two-phase flow based on the Shan-Chen multiphase scheme. The kinetics of dendritic growth is determined according to a local solute equilibrium approach. The present model takes into account the effect of liquid-solid phase transformation on the nucleation and growth of bubbles. The interaction mechanism between dendrites and bubbles is also embedded in the model. The wettability of a bubble on a smooth solid surface is simulated. The simulated contact angles with various interaction coefficients agree well with the data calculated from an empirical formula derived from the Young's equation. The proposed model is applied t...

Description: The positive slope on the pump performance curve of pump-turbines suggested potential operational instabilities in pump mode. In the present study a low specific speed model pump-turbine was experimentally and numerically examined. The results revealed that the positive slope region exists on each Guide Vane Opening (GVO) curve except at the optimum GVO. The positive slope occurred in the discharge coefficient between 80%-85% optimum discharge coefficient at every GVO. Hysteresis was detected on the occurrence of the positive slope between measurements with increasing and decreasing discharge coefficient. FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation) analysis on pressure fluctuations revealed the occurrence of rotating stall with two cells close to the vaneless space between the runner and the guide vanes in the positive slope region. Two-dimensional simulation was then applied for a further understanding of the flow mechanism of the rotating stall.

Description: In the present work, processes of multi-pass cold drawn were conducted on hypereutectoid pearlite steel wires with carbon content of 1.02 w.t.%. Relationship between microstructural development and mechanical properties of hypereutectoid steel wires after drawing was investigated. It was found that when the strain was relatively small, lamellar morphology of the pearlite in the steel wire after cold drawn remained, and the spacing of lamella was refined. With the increase of the compression ratio, coordinated deformation of ferrite and cementite occurred and pearlite lamella were bended and folded. As the strain increased, fibrous morphology of pearlite lamella was observed in longitudinal section of the wire. High magnification TEM observation revealed the fragmentation of cementite and a large number of nano-crystalline. Tensile strength, microhardness and torsion strength of the steel wires after multi-pass drawn process increased significantly with the increase of accumulate...

Description: The effect of parameter of MIG arc brazing on the microstructure and the bonding strength of ZChSnSb11-6 and steel substrate has been studied. A cladding of ZChSnSb11-6 was obtained on the surface of medium carbon steel by MIG arc brazing. The microstructure of ZChSnSb11-6 and the microstructure of the interface between ZChSnSb11-6 and steel substrate have been systematically investigated. The highest bonding strength of ZChSnSb11-6 and the steel substrate is 66.42Mpa when welding voltage is 22V and welding current is 120A. The reason for the enhancement of the bonding strength was discussed. When the hard and brittle SnSb phase near the IMC layer is subjected to tensile stress at the interface between the Tin-based Babbitt alloy and the steel substrate, stress concentration occurs and the initiation and propagation of cracks are promoted. When the welding voltage is 20V, The number of the SnSb phase near the IMC layer decreases while the welding current increases, so the bondin...

Description: The effect of compression ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ultra-high strength pearlitic wire in single-pass cold drawing has been studied. The ultra-high tensile strength cord steel with a carbon content of 1.02 wt% were pulled through a single-pass drawing to different compression ratios (0-30%). With the increase of the single-pass compression ratio, the tensile strength, microhardness and torsional properties of the steel wire increased gradually. When the compression rate increased from 0 to 30%, the tensile strength of the steel wire increased from 1263.4 MPa to 1553.7 MPa, the torsional strength of steel wire increased from 1126.83 MPa to 1279.66 MPa. In the single-pass drawing process, the strengthening mechanism of the pearlitic steel wire are mainly the work hardening caused by the dislocation slip in the ferrite, and the fine grain strengthening caused by the decrease of the pearlite sheet spacing.

Description: The effect of welding parameters on metallographic microstructure of aluminum bronze, interfacial microstructure and bonding strength of aluminum bronze and steel substrate has been studied. A cladding of aluminum bronze was obtained on the surface of medium carbon steel by CMT welding and short circuiting transfer welding. The microstructure of aluminum bronze and the interfacial microstructure of the interface between aluminum bronze and steel substrate have been systematically investigated. Sample 1-4 are α + ( α + γ 2 ) microstructure of typical aluminum bronze. As for Sample 5, iron-rich particles and dendrites were distributed on the α -Cu crystal matrix. The bonding strength of aluminum bronze and steel substrate has been collected according to the destructive testing method of the bimetallic bonding strength of sliding bearing. Among the five samples, Sample 4 and Sample 5 had the highest bonding strength (528.17MPa and 511.39Mpa, resp...

Description: The backflow design is one way to reduce the noise in the Roots blower. In this paper, the three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models were established to simulate the flows in the working chambers of the Roots blower with and without backflow design, using the dynamic mesh method. And then, the variations of pressure in the cylinder of the Roots blower with backflow design were tested in experiment to validate these CFD models. The result shows the CFD models were appropriate. The backflow could reduce the amplitude of the pressure pulsation in the outlet of the Roots blower more than 50%, but the volume efficiency also be reduced by 3.5%.

Description: Numerical simulation using SST k-w turbulence model was carried out, to predict pressure fluctuation transfer law in turbine mode. Three operating points with different mass flow rates are simulated. The results of numerical simulation show that, the amplitude and frequency of pressure fluctuations in different positions are very different. The transfer law of amplitude and frequency of pressure fluctuations change with different position and different mass flow rate. Blade passing frequency (BPF) is the first dominant frequency in vaneless space, while component in this frequency got smaller in the upstream and downstream of vaneless space when the mass flow is set. Furthermore triple blade passing frequency (3BPF) component obtained a different transfer law through the whole flow passage. The amplitude and frequency of pressure fluctuations is also different in different circumference position of vaneless space. When the mass flow is different, the distribution of pressure flu...

Description: Collapse gully erosion is a specific type of soil erosion in the red soil region of southern China, and early warning and prevention of the occurrence of collapse gully erosion is very important. Based on the idea of risk assessment, this research, taking Guangdong province as an example, adopt the information acquisition analysis and the logistic regression analysis, to discuss the feasibility for collapse gully erosion risk assessment in regional scale, and compare the applicability of the different risk assessment methods. The results show that in the Guangdong province, the risk degree of collapse gully erosion occurrence is high in northeastern and western area, and relatively low in southwestern and central part. The comparing analysis of the different risk assessment methods on collapse gully also indicated that the risk distribution patterns from the different methods were basically consistent. However, the accuracy of risk map from the information acquisition analysis m...
