Description: In this investigation, an A356/10%100μm SiCp upward suction casting with a cylinder cavity of 40 mm diameter and 400 mm height was conducted with stirring technique. The SiCp contents in the casting different sections were quantitatively measured with micro digital image analysis system, and then were compared and analyzed. To simulate the casting mold filling, the composite mixture was simulated based on the Euler method while the particulate flow was calculated with the Lagrangian method for predicting the SiCp distribution. The flow of the mixture and particulate phases was analyzed and discussed. The simulated particulate distribution was compared and validated with the experimental results. Both results have shown that the particulate contents decreased along the upward mold filling direction, and that the particulates were prone to be trapped near the mold wall at the filling beginning part due to local lower temperature and higher viscosity and they distributed towards th...

Description: According to radiation transfer equation (RTE), it is an ill-conditioned problem to obtain land surface temperature (LST) accurately from the HJ-1B thermal infrared channel. Several algorithms have been proposed to resolve this problem. However, some accurate inputs (e.g. atmospheric parameters and land surface emissivity) always inaccessible to common users are indispensable to their applications. An innovative approach (named MTSC method) based on multi-temporal data was described in this paper, by means of which the LSTs are able to be estimated readily and directly from the radiometrically corrected thermal images, even without any other accurate information. To demonstrate its capability, four HJ-1B images (acquired on Nov 28, Dec 10, Dec 18 and Dec 22, 2011, respectively) mainly covering the Pearl River Delta region were selected for LSTs estimation. The LSTs retrieved by the MTSC method were then compared with the near time MODIS surface temperature products, and the samp...

Description: An Al-20Mg-4Si high Mg containing alloy has been produced and its characteristics investigated. The as-cast alloy revealed primary Mg 2 Si particles evenly distributed throughout an α-Al matrix with a β-Al 3 Mg 2 fully divorced eutectic phase observed in interdendritic regions. The Mg 2 Si particles displayed octahedral, truncated octahedral, and hopper morphologies. Additions of Sb, Ti and Zr had a refining influence reducing the size of the Mg 2 Si from 52 ± 4 μm to 25 ± 0.1 μm, 35 ± 1 μm and 34 ± 1 μm respectively. HPDC tensile test samples could be produced with a 0.6 wt.% Mn addition which prevented die soldering. Solution heating for 1 hr was found to dissolve the majority of the Al 3 Mg 2 eutectic phase with no evidence of any effect on the primary Mg 2 Si. Preliminary results indicate that the heat treatment has a beneficial effect on the elongation and the UTS.

Description: In recent years, some studies have been carried out on the landscape analysis of urban thermal patterns. With the prevalence of thermal landscape, a key problem has come forth, which is how to classify thermal landscape into thermal patches. Current researches used different methods of thermal landscape classification such as standard deviation method (SD) and R method. To find out the differences, a comparative study was carried out in Xiamen using a 20-year winter time-serial Landsat images. After the retrieval of land surface temperature (LST), the thermal landscape was classified using the two methods separately. Then landscape metrics, 6 at class level and 14 at landscape level, were calculated and analyzed using Fragstats 3.3. We found that: (1) at the class level, all the metrics with SD method were evened and did not show an obvious trend along with the process of urbanization, while the R method could. (2) While at the landscape level, 6 of the 14 metrics remains the si...

Description: Numerical simulation of a three-dimensional turbulent flow in the whole flow field of an axial-flow fan is performed. Unstructured grids are used to discrete the computational domain. Pressure boundary conditions are specified to the inlet and the outlet. The SIMPLE algorithm, in conjunction with the RNG k-ε turbulent model, is used to solve the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The moving reference frame is adopted to transfer data between the interfaces of the rotating field and the stationary field. Based on the calculation of the inner-flow in the fan, the velocity field and pressure field were farther analyzed. The simulation results are of important significance to the optimal design and noise control of the fan.
