Description: Platinum has been growing in economic importance in recent years. Limited occurrence of large scale deposits and ever-increasing demand have encouraged the utilization of deposits with low grade ore. Efficient yet small scale applicable method of extraction is needed to utilize those deposits. Chloride solution based leaching facilitates excellent condition for platinum dissolution by significantly reducing its reduction potential and through formation of stable aquochlorocomplexes. This paper reports optimization of chloride solution based platinum leaching from Indonesian artisanal ore under variation of lixiviant concentration, leaching time, pulp ratio, and leaching temperature. The Taguchi method was used to optimize the process. Hydrochloric acid was chosen as primary source of chloride ion and H 2 O 2 were added as oxidizer. Parameters were arranged in L-9 orthogonal arrays and optimized through signal to noise ratio (S/N Ratio). Analysis of variance wa...

Description: This research establishes a localized dynamic system model to explore changes of air pollution emission in the transition of electric scooters (ES) considering energy transformation. The calculation of emission factors (EF) of criteria air pollutants and greenhouse gases for Heavy-duty Gasoline-powered Scooters (GSH) and Heavy-duty ES (ESH) is performed with energy flow analysis. Compared with the GSH, the EF of TSP, NOx, VOCs, and CO 2 e for ESH reduce by, respectively, 14.8%, 97.4%, 100%, and 76.8% per kilometer travelled in 2016; although the SOx EF for ESH is 2.4 times higher than that for GSH, the increment is down to 22.2% in 2025. If the SOx emissions intensity of electricity reduce to 100 mg/kWh, the SOx EF for ESH will be lower than that for GSH. System dynamics and energy flow analysis can provide effective analysis about mitigation scenarios and these findings are helpful to local authorities for air quality management.

Description: Anomaly monitoring in the mold is a mean to ensure its efficient and stable operation. At present, there are many methods for detecting abnormalities in molds, such as tonnage or strain signal analysis, ultrasonic or magnetostatic detection, and machine vision inspection. This paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of the above methods, lists the existing abnormalities of machine vision mold monitoring methods, and the two major problems (illumination changes and camera vibration) in the process of monitoring solutions are summarized. At the end, the paper summarizes and analyzes the development direction and key points of this field.

Description: Waste cooking oil (WCO) and its model compounds (oleic acid and methyl laurate) are catalytically pyrolyzed in a fixed-bed reactor over La modified ZSM-5 catalysts (La/ZSM-5) aiming for production of C2-C4 light olefins. The LaO content in catalysts was set at 0, 2, 6, 10 and 14 wt%. The gas and liquid products are analyzed. The La/ZSM-5 catalyst with 6% LaO showed higher selectivity to light olefins when WCO and methyl laurate were pyrolyzed, and olefin content was 26% for WCO and 21% for methyl laurate. The catalyst with 10% LaO showed high selectivity to light olefins (28.5%) when oleic acid was pyrolyzed. The liquid products from WCO and model compounds mainly contain esters and aromatic hydrocarbons. More esters were observed in liquid products from methyl laurate and WCO pyrolysis, indicating that it is more difficult to pyrolyze esters and WCO than oleic acid. The coked catalysts were analyzed by temperature-programmed oxidation. The result shows that graphite is the main...

Description: Flapping wing in tandem configuration may offer enhanced aerodynamic performance at low Reynolds number, in which micro air vehicles operate. The present study aims to investigate the effect of fore-hind wing pitch difference on the aerodynamic performance of tandem wings. To that end, two-dimensional, laminar flow around two thin flat airfoils that are sinusoidally plunging in phase with each other, were computationally simulated at a Reynolds number of 10000, using a flow solver in an Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian framework. The fore wing pitch angle was fixed to 10°, while the hind wing pitch angle was varied between -10°, 0°, 10° and 20°. Numerical results shows that aerodynamic performance of the fore wing may be affected by the hind wing pitch angle and that tandem wings may offer improved lift to drag efficiency at some optimal fore-hind wing pitch difference compared to twice the results of a similar single wing case. In addition, the complex fore-hind wing vortex intera...

Description: The aims of current studies is to investigate the effect of strontium oxide content (SrO) on synthesized zeolite. Zeolite was synthesized from Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as precursors of SiO 2 and aluminum isopropoxide (AIP) precursors. The mixture was aged for 3 days and hydrothermally treated for 6 days. The SrO content was added by impregnation method. The products were then characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), and Surface Area Analyzer (SAA). The diffractogram confirmed the formation of Faujasite-like zeolite. However, after the addition of SrO, the crystallinity of zeolite was deformed. The diffractograms shows the amorphous phase of zeolite were decrease as the SrO content is increase. The structural changes was also observed from FTIR spectra which shows the shifting and peak formation. The surface area analysis showed that the increasing loading of SrO/Zeolites reduced the catalyst surface area.

Description: The adsorption of a solution mixture of Rhodamine B, Pb (II), Cu (II) and Zn(II) was studied using dynamic methods employing chitosan-silica-polyethylene glycol (Ch/Si/P) composite membrane as an adsorptive membrane. The composite Ch/Si/P membrane was prepared by mixing a chitosan-based membrane with silica isolated from rice husk ash (ASP) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a plasticizer. The resultant composite membrane was a stronger and more flexible membrane than the original chitosan-based membrane as indicated by the maximum percentage of elongation (20.5 %) and minimum Young’s Modulus (80.5 MPa). The composite membrane also showed increased mechanical and hydrophilic properties compared to the chitosan membranes. The membrane was used as adsorption membrane for Pb (II), Cu (II), Cd (II) ions and Rhodamine B dyes in a dynamic system where the permeation and selectivity were determined. The permeation of the components was observed to be in the following order: Rhodamine B &...

Description: Global concern on petroleum based plastics which is non-degradable in our environment has led researchers to develop biodegradable plastics. However, biodegradable plastics have poor barrier properties because of their hydrophilic character of biopolymers. It is known that incorporation of nanocellulose extracted from plant sources to improve barrier properties of biocomposites because of its nanoscopic structure. This study aims to develop biodegradable film based from PVA/Starch and nanocellulose from sugarcane bagasse. Investigation on the effect of sugarcane bagasse nanofibre (SCB-NF) content, PVA content, starch content and water content to the water absorption property of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/Starch (S) composites reinforced with sugarcane bagasse nanofibre (SCB-NF) was carried out using Design Expert Version 9.0 with a two-level factorial design (2-FI). Composition of SCB-NF, PVA, Starch and water content was varied from the range of 1 to 9%, 3-8 gram, 1-4 gram, and 80...

Description: Biodiesel is a renewable, non-toxic, environmentally friendly fuel made from vegetable oils through a transesterification reaction with methanol. During this time the manufacture of biodiesel takes a long time which can be overcome with ultrasonic heating. The use of sound waves can decrease the reaction time and the number of catalysts. The purpose of this study was to study ultrasonic utilization as a heater in transesterification reaction of kapok seed oil with the addition NaOH catalyst concetration of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1% (w/w) with 50 Hz of frequensi ultarsonic and reaction times were of 1, 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 30 min. The reaction conversion of kapok seed oil with NaOH catalyst at 0.5% (w/w) concentration, reaction time 15 minutes was 73.56% at each 1: 9 molar ratio. The results of the analysis of several parameters on biodiesel products show that they have met the specification based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI-04-7182-2006).
