Description: A pedestrian counting method based on Haar-like detection and template-matching algorithm is presented. The aim of the method is to count pedestrians that are in a metro station automatically using video surveillance camera. The most challenging problem is to count pedestrians accurately in the case of not changing the position of the surveillance camera, because the view that surveillance camera uses in a metro station is always short-shot and nondirect downward view. In this view, traditional methods find it difficult to count pedestrians accurately. Hence, we propose this novel method. In addition, in order to improve counting accuracy more, we present a method to set the parameter value with a threshold-curve instead of a fixed threshold. The results of experiments show the high accuracy of our method.

Description: In this paper, we investigate how user’s online behavior (e.g., making friendships) and their offline activity (e.g., check-ins) affected each other by leveraging the data collected from LBSN. First, we use vectors to represent nodes and define popularity entropy for each node to weigh their popularities and the impact on forming a new edge. Then, we propose an algorithm to calculate the weight of each edge based on our findings that the more overlap of linked nodes they have, the heavier weight the edge has and the more popular the nodes in their overlap are, the lighter the weight of the edge is. Finally, we conduct link prediction by using the random walk with restart method considering the effect of every node and every edge. Experimental results show that user’s activity in virtual world and physical world do really have great impact on each other.

Description: This paper investigates the consensus tracking problem for second-order multi-agent systems without/with input delays. Randomized quantization scheme is considered in the communication channels, and impulsive consensus tracking algorithms using position-only information are proposed for the consensus tracking of multi-agent systems. Based on the algebraic graph theory and stability theory of impulsive systems, sufficient and necessary conditions for consensus tracking are studied. It is found that consensus tracking for second-order multi-agent systems without/with input delays can be achieved by appropriately choosing the sampling period and control gains which are determined by second/third degree polynomials. Simulations are performed to validate the theoretical results.

Description: In a real world application, we seldom get all images at one time. Considering this case, if a company hired an employee, all his images information needs to be recorded into the system; if we rerun the face recognition algorithm, it will be time consuming. To address this problem, In this paper, firstly, we proposed a novel subspace incremental method called incremental graph regularized nonnegative matrix factorization (IGNMF) algorithm which imposes manifold into incremental nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm (INMF); thus, our new algorithm is able to preserve the geometric structure in the data under incremental study framework; secondly, considering we always get many face images belonging to one person or many different people as a batch, we improved our IGNMF algorithms to Batch-IGNMF algorithms (B-IGNMF), which implements incremental study in batches. Experiments show that (1) the recognition rate of our IGNMF and B-IGNMF algorithms is close to GNMF algorithm while it runs faster than GNMF. (2) The running times of our IGNMF and B-IGNMF algorithms are close to INMF while the recognition rate outperforms INMF. (3) Comparing with other popular NMF-based face recognition incremental algorithms, our IGNMF and B-IGNMF also outperform then both the recognition rate and the running time.

Description: Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) was discovered in 1974 and impacted Raman spectroscopy and surface science. Although SERS has not been developed to be an applicable detection tool so far, nanotechnology has promoted its development in recent decades. The traditional SERS substrates, such as silver electrode, metal island film, and silver colloid, cannot be applied because of their enhancement factor or stability, but newly developed substrates, such as electrochemical deposition surface, Ag porous film, and surface-confined colloids, have better sensitivity and stability. Surface enhanced Raman scattering is applied in other fields such as detection of chemical pollutant, biomolecules, DNA, bacteria, and so forth. In this paper, the development of nanofabrication and application of surface-enhanced Ramans scattering substrate are discussed.

Description: In the cloud manufacturing environment, innovative service composition is an important way to improve the capability and efficiency of resource integration and realize the upgrading and transformational upgrade of the manufacturing industry. In order to build a stable innovative service composition, we propose a novel composite model, which uses two-way selection according to their cooperation to recommend the most suitable partners. Firstly, a rough number is applied to quantify the semantic evaluation. Using the expectation of cooperative condition as reference points, prospect theory is then applied to calculate the cooperative desires for both sides based on participants’ psychological attitudes toward gains and losses. Next, the cooperative desires are used to establish the two-way selection model of innovative service composition. The solution is determined by using an improved teaching-learning-based optimization algorithm. Compared with traditional combined methods in the cloud manufacturing environment, the proposed model fully considers the long-neglected needs and interests of service providers. Prospect theory takes psychological expectations and varying attitudes of decision makers towards gains and losses into account. Moreover, an interval rough number is used to better preserve the uncertain information during semantic quantification. Experimental results verify the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Description: Generally, the damage of the structure will lead to the discontinuity of the local mode shape, which can be well reflected by the modal curvature of the structure, and the local information entropy of the beam structure will also change with the discontinuity of the mode. In this paper, based on the information entropy theory and combining the advantages of modal curvature index in damage identification of beam structure, the modal curvature utility information entropy index is proposed. The modal curvature curves of nondestructive structures were obtained by fitting the modal curvature curves of damage structures with the gapped smoothing technique to avoid dependence on the baseline data of nondestructive structures. The index comprehensively reflects the damage state of the structure by calculating mutual weight change matrix and the weight-probability coefficient. The performance of the new index was verified by the finite element simulation and model test of simply supported beam, respectively. The results show that the modal curvature utility information entropy index takes advantage of the modal curvature index which is sensitive to damage and can overcome its shortcomings effectively. The index proposed can identify the damage location and damage degree accurately and has certain noise immunity, which provides an effective damage identification indicator for beam structures.

Description: Due to the adjustment of energy structure, a large number of coal mines are abandoned. Considering the environmental and economic effects, many experts proposed to use the abandoned mine cavern as the reservoir of the pumped storage power station. Furthermore, considering the long-term effects of repeated pumping and drainage and hydrodynamic pressure on the surrounding rock in coal mines, a large amount of sandstone was collected from the Ruineng coal mine in Yan’an city to carry out a series of laboratory tests. Through uniaxial compression testing of rock samples with different water content rates, combined with acoustic emission (AE) analysis, the strength softening and macrodeformation characteristics are obtained, and the influence of water content on acoustic emission characteristics is clarified. The mechanical properties of water bearing rock under cyclic loading and unloading experiments with varying upper limits are obtained using a triaxial test system, and the precursory information of rock failure is captured, providing significant guidance for stability analysis and instability warning for surrounding rock in pumped storage power stations.

Description: The planning stages of dredging require comprehensive and detailed analyses. Identifying the dredging environment is one of the important points. A three-dimensional (3D) geological modeling technology has been shown to be a robust tool for representing and analyzing the conditions of geology. From a general perspective, a 3D model is established by some spatial surfaces. Based on a dredging project, this study investigated the estimation capability of an interpolation method of triangulation combined with BP neural network, for modeling a rock layer surface. The performance of the proposed model is compared with some conventional methods in the literature. The results showed that this interpolation method is effective to be employed for surface modeling of the rock layer.
