Description: We investigate how to correct exposure of underexposed images. The bottleneck of previous methods mainly lies in their naturalness and robustness when dealing with images with various exposure levels. When facing well-exposed or extremely underexposed images, they may produce over- or underenhanced outputs. In this paper, we propose a novel retinex-based approach, namely, LiAR (short for lightness-aware restorer). The word “lightness-aware” refers to that the estimated illumination not only is a component to be adjusted but also serves as a measure that reflects the brightness of the scene, determining the degree of adjustment. In this way, underexposed images can be restored adaptively according to their own brightness. Given an image, LiAR first estimates its illumination map using a specially designed loss function which can ensure the result’s color consistency and texture richness. Then adaptive correction is performed to get properly exposed output. LiAR is based on internal optimization of the single test image and does not need any prior training, implying that it can adapt itself to different settings per image. Additionally, LiAR can be easily extended to the video case due to its simplicity and stability. Experiments demonstrate that facing images/videos with various exposure levels, LiAR can achieve robust and real-time correction with high contrast and naturalness. Description: Sensing coverage, which is one of vital issues in the design of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), can usually interact with other performance metrics such as network connectivity and energy consumption. Whatever the metrics, the fundamental problem is to know at least how many sensor nodes are needed to maintain both sensing coverage and network connectivity. In this paper, we propose a Percolation Model on Novel Gilbert Graph (PM-NGG) to obtain the critical density at which the network can become fully covered and connected considering the similarity between the occurrence of percolation and the formation of a covered and connected network. The PM-NGG is based on directional sensor network where sensors are assigned a determined sensing direction with angular intervals varying from 0 to 2π. Furthermore, we define the sensing and communication model in directional sensor network in presence of channel randomness including deterministic path attenuation, shadow fading, and multipath fading. Besides, we discuss the coverage and connectivity together as a whole under the proposed model. It is worth mentioning that the theoretical analysis and simulation results of the relationship between critical density and transmitting power give insights into the design of directional sensor network in practice.

Description: Considering the characteristics of equipment on underground fully mechanized coal mining face, a multirobot system, which takes heavy-duty mobile support robot (HMSR) as the pushing robot and middle trough (MT) as the manipulated object, is established. To overcome the problem of unstable communication and potential pressure loss, a memory-pushing fuzzy control strategy is proposed to achieve better practical performance without human-guided operations. The pushing dynamics without communication is derived to proof the convergence of the dynamic system, and the time-based memory-pushing fuzzy model is built for compensating the potential pressure loss. Finally, the proposed control strategy is simulated in virtual environment, which integrates our pushing dynamics, and an industrial experiment is demonstrated as well. Both the simulation and industrial experiments show the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed method.

Description: Energy saving is a crucial concern in embedded real time systems. Many RT-DVS algorithms have been proposed to save energy while preserving deadline guarantees. This paper presents a novel approach to evaluate RT-DVS algorithms using statistical model checking. A scalable framework is proposed for RT-DVS algorithms evaluation, in which the relevant components are modeled as stochastic timed automata, and the evaluation metrics including utilization bound, energy efficiency, battery awareness, and temperature awareness are expressed as statistical queries. Evaluation of these metrics is performed by verifying the corresponding queries using UPPAAL-SMC and analyzing the statistical information provided by the tool. We demonstrate the applicability of our framework via a case study of five classical RT-DVS algorithms.

Description: The light curve of V921 Her in ultraviolet band observed by the Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope (LUT) is analyzed by the Wilson-Devinney code. Our solutions conclude that V921 Her is an early type marginal contact binary system with an additional close-in component. The binary system is under poor thermal contact with a temperature difference of nearly 700 K between the two components. The close-in component contributes about 19% of the total luminosity in the triple system. Combining the radial velocity study together with our photometric solutions, the mass of the primary star and secondary one is calculated to be , . The evolutionary scenario of V921 Her is discussed. All times of light minimum of V921 Her available in the bibliography are taken into account and the curve is analyzed for the first time. The most probable fitting results are discussed in the paper, which also confirm the existence of a third component ( year) around the binary system. The period of V921 Her is also undergoing a continuously rapid increase at a rate of , which may be due to mass transfer from the less massive component to the more massive one.

Description: International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2019. 〈br/〉In the past decades, compressed sensing emerges as a promising technique for signal acquisition in low-cost sensor networks. For prolonging the monitoring duration of biosignals, compressed sensing is also exploited for simultaneous sampling and compression of electrocardiogram signals in the wireless body sensor network. This article presents a comprehensive analysis of compressed sensing for electrocardiogram acquisition. The performances of involved important factors, such as wavelet basis, overcomplete dictionaries, and the reconstruction algorithms, are comparatively illustrated, with the purpose to give data reference for practical applications. Drawn from a bulk of comparative experiments, the potential of compressed sensing in electrocardiogram acquisition is evaluated in different compression levels, while preferred sparsifying basis and reconstruction algorithm are also suggested. Relative perspectives and discussions are also given.

Description: We study the scenario in which a large number of machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) communicate with each other by utilizing the help of the base station (BS) through some MTCD gateways. We consider an overlay mode of an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) based cellular system using orthogonal beamforming to provide broadband wireless access for the MTCD gateways. In order to avoid the interference with mobile users, the beamforming vectors to the MTCD gateways have to be orthogonal to the channel vectors of mobile users, which become a beamforming constraint for the MTCD gateways. However, with limited feedback of channel state information (CSI) at a BS, the orthogonal beamforming constraints may not be achieved. In such a practical case, conventional feedback schemes are feasible but not efficient due to the orthogonality constraints. In this paper, we propose a novel multiple beam selection (MBS) approach with limited feedback for MTCD gateways by taking into account the previous orthogonality constraints. Simulation results show that the performance improvement of the proposed approach over the conventional ones is generally about 10% when a BS is equipped with an array of 6 elements.

Description: This paper considers the problem of partial finite-time synchronization between switched stochastic Chua's circuits accompanied by a time-driven switching law. Based on the Ito formula and Lyapunov stability theory, a sliding-mode controller is developed to guarantee the synchronization of switched stochastic master-slave Chua's circuits and for the mean of error states to obtain the partial finite-time stability. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Description: This paper considers the problem of the robust stability for the nonlinear system with time-varying delay and parameters uncertainties. Based on the theorem, Lyapunov-Krasovskii theory, and linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization technique, the quasi-sliding mode controller and switching function are developed such that the nonlinear system is asymptotically stable in the quasi-sliding mode and satisfies the disturbance attenuation (-norm performance). The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed methods are shown in numerical simulations.
