    Description: Collision sensing including collision position, collision direction, and force size could make robots smoothly interact with environment, so that the robots can strongly adapt to the outside world. Skin sensor imitates principles of human skin using special material and physical structure to obtain collision information, but this method has some disadvantages, such as complex design, low sampling rate, and poor generality. In this paper, a new method using force/torque sensor to calculate collision position, collision direction, and force size is proposed. Detailed algorithm is elaborated based on physical principle and unified modeling method for basic geometric surface. Gravity compensation and dynamic compensation are also introduced for working manipulators/robots in gravity and dynamic environment. In addition, considering algorithm solvability and uniqueness, four constraints are proposed, which are force constraint, geometric constraint, normal vector constraint, and current mutation constraint. In order to solve conflict solution of algorithm in redundant constraints, compatibility solution analysis is proposed. Finally, a simulation experiment shows that the proposed method can achieve collision information efficiently and accurately.

    Description: Transmit antenna selection (TAS) is an efficient way for improving the system performance of spatial modulation (SM) systems. However, in the case of large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, the computational complexity of TAS in large-scale SM will be extremely high, which prohibits the application of TAS-SM in a real large-scale MIMO system for future 5G wireless communications. For solving this problem, in this paper, two novel low-complexity TAS schemes, named as norm-angle guided subset division (NAG-SD) and threshold-based NAG-SD ones, are proposed to offer a better tradeoff between computational complexity and system performance. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can achieve better performance than traditional TAS schemes, while effectively reducing the computational complexity in large-scale spatial modulation systems.

    Description: Granular association rules reveal patterns hidden in many-to-many relationships which are common in relational databases. In recommender systems, these rules are appropriate for cold-start recommendation, where a customer or a product has just entered the system. An example of such rules might be “40% men like at least 30% kinds of alcohol; 45% customers are men and 6% products are alcohol.” Mining such rules is a challenging problem due to pattern explosion. In this paper, we build a new type of parametric rough sets on two universes and propose an efficient rule mining algorithm based on the new model. Specifically, the model is deliberately defined such that the parameter corresponds to one threshold of rules. The algorithm benefits from the lower approximation operator in the new model. Experiments on two real-world data sets show that the new algorithm is significantly faster than an existing algorithm, and the performance of recommender systems is stable.

    Description: Recommender systems are used to make recommendations about products, information, or services for users. Most existing recommender systems implicitly assume one particular type of user behavior. However, they seldom consider user-recommender interactive scenarios in real-world environments. In this paper, we propose a hybrid recommender system based on user-recommender interaction and evaluate its performance with recall and diversity metrics. First, we define the user-recommender interaction. The recommender system accepts user request, recommends N items to the user, and records user choice. If some of these items favor the user, she will select one to browse and continue to use recommender system, until none of the recommended items favors her. Second, we propose a hybrid recommender system combining random and k-nearest neighbor algorithms. Third, we redefine the recall and diversity metrics based on the new scenario to evaluate the recommender system. Experiments results on the well-known MovieLens dataset show that the hybrid algorithm is more effective than nonhybrid ones.

    Description: Aggregated recommendation refers to the process of suggesting one kind of items to a group of users. Compared to user-oriented or item-oriented approaches, it is more general and, therefore, more appropriate for cold-start recommendation. In this paper, we propose a random forest approach to create aggregated recommender systems. The approach is used to predict the rating of a group of users to a kind of items. In the preprocessing stage, we merge user, item, and rating information to construct an aggregated decision table, where rating information serves as the decision attribute. We also model the data conversion process corresponding to the new user, new item, and both new problems. In the training stage, a forest is built for the aggregated training set, where each leaf is assigned a distribution of discrete rating. In the testing stage, we present four predicting approaches to compute evaluation values based on the distribution of each tree. Experiments results on the well-known MovieLens dataset show that the aggregated approach maintains an acceptable level of accuracy.

    Description: Due to the input time-delay existing in most thrust systems of the ships, the robustH∞controller is designed for the ship dynamic positioning (DP) system with time-delay. The input delay system is turned to a neutral time-delay system by a state-derivative control law. The less conservative result is derived for the neutral system with state-derivative feedback by the delay-decomposition approach and linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, the numerical simulations demonstrate the asymptotic stability and robustness of the controller and verify that the designed DP controller is effective in the varying environment disturbances of wind, waves, and ocean currents.

    Description: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the key technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT) and is used in many areas, such as mobile payments, public transportation, smart lock, and environment protection. However, the performance of RFID equipment can be easily affected by the surrounding environment, such as electronic productions and metal appliances. These can impose an impact on the RF signal, which makes the collection of RFID data unreliable. Usually, the unreliability of RFID source data includes three aspects: false negatives, false positives, and dirty data. False negatives are the key problem, as the probability of false positives and dirty data occurrence is relatively small. This paper proposes a novel sliding window cleaning algorithm called VSMURF, which is based on the traditional SMURF algorithm which combines the dynamic change of tags and the value analysis of confidence. Experimental results show that VSMURF algorithm performs better in most conditions and when the tag’s speed is low or high. In particular, if the velocity parameter is set to 2 m/epoch, our proposed VSMURF algorithm performs better than SMURF. The results also show that VSMURF algorithm has better performance than other algorithms in solving the problem of false negatives for RFID networks.

    Description: Novel single negative metamaterial (MTM) transmission lines (TLs) are presented and studied in microstrip technology. They consist of a host TL in the conductor strip and a fractal-shaped complementary ring resonator (CRR) etched in the ground plane. Two types of fractal-shaped CRR are involved including the Moore and Hilbert. It is found that fractal perturbation in CRR results in lower and more transmission zeros in comparison with conventional CRR using nonfractal geometries. The single negative-permeability or -permittivity of these MTM TLs which associated with the resultant multitransmission zeros occurs by turns and should benefit devices with high selectivity requirement. Potential application of these MTM cells are illustrated by two examples, one is the microstrip stepped-impedance transformers (SIT) operating at 3.5 GHz with two edged attenuation poles to introduce selectivity; the other one is the Hi-Lo microstrip low-pass filter (LPF) with cutoff frequency 2.5 GHz exhibiting improved selectivity (77.3 dB/GHz). By constructing the low-impedance sections as hybrid prefractal shape and crown square, both the SITs and LPF obtained additional bandwidth enhancement and good matching. Consistent results between simulation and measurement have confirmed the design concept.

    Description: This paper studies an optimized container loading problem with the goal of maximizing the 3D space utilization. Based on the characteristics of the mathematical loading model, we develop a dedicated placement heuristic integrated with a novel dynamic space division method, which enables the design of the adaptive genetic algorithm in order to maximize the loading space utilization. We use both weakly and strongly heterogeneous loading data to test the proposed algorithm. By choosing 15 classic sets of test data given by Loh and Nee as weakly heterogeneous data, the average space utilization of our algorithm reaching 70.62% outperforms those of 13 algorithms from the related literature. Taking a set of test data given by George and Robinson as strongly heterogeneous data, the space utilization in this paper can be improved by 4.42% in comparison with their heuristic algorithm.

    Description: A novel wideband waveguide antenna with excellent performance is proposed, which is composed of a coaxial-waveguide transition and an open-ended rectangular waveguide loaded with a pair of horizontal umbrella-shaped metallic brims. The brims perpendicular to two broad walls of the waveguide are constructed to modulate the antenna to radiate nearly identical E- and H-plane radiation patterns. A wideband impedance matching performance is achieved with a fractional bandwidth of 40% through the introduction of short-stepped ladders. The antenna has the advantages of simple structure, symmetric radiation pattern, low-cross polarization, moderate back lobe, and almost constant beamwidth.
