Description: International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2019. 〈br/〉This article addresses the problem related to the reliability of path after transmitting the given amount of data with the service-level agreement cooperation in the computer communication network. The links have associated with service performance factor parameter during the data transmission, and each node is associated with the requested service performance factor. In this article, first we have considered the single objective to minimize the transmission time of the quickest path problem. An algorithm for quickest path problem has been proposed for results, and furthermore, its time complexity has been shown. The problem has been extended with bi-objective optimization of the quickest path problem, which minimizes the transmission time and hybrid logarithmic reliability. An algorithm is proposed for getting the number of efficient solutions for the quickest path problem using label-correcting algorithm. The algorithms are implemented and tested on different standard benchmark network problems provided with the set of Pareto front of the results.

Description: Interference alignment (IA) is a technique used to reduce the dimension of the interference, where consequently the multiplexing rate is increased. In the 2-user X channel, combining IA with space-time block codes increases the diversity gain. These gains are achieved with the cost of leaked information at unintended receivers, where this leaked information can be used to decode other receiver’s signals. In this paper, we consider each of the two two-antenna receivers as an eavesdropper with 1 or 2 additional eavesdropping antennas. As such, we suggest receiver structures to answer the question: “Is the leaked information sufficient to properly decode the unintended signals?” besides quantifying the leaked information in terms of secrecy sum rates (SSR). Interestingly, we show that the SSR is negative, indicating that the quality of the eavesdropped signals is superior to that of the intended signals. To assure confidentiality, we propose an interleaved multiple rotation-based transformation scheme that neutralizes any a priori knowledge about the structure of the eavesdropped information and rotates the transmitted symbols using orthogonal matrices, preserving both the power and the distance between symbols.

Description: IEEE 802.15.6 is the first international Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) standard that supports communications in the vicinity of or inside a human body to serve a variety of medical and nonmedical applications. The standard defines a Medium Access Control (MAC) layer that supports several Physical (PHY) layers. In this paper, the key features of the IEEE 802.15.6 standard are presented. The MAC, PHY, and security specifications of the standard are explained in detail. Different communication modes and access mechanisms are presented. The Narrowband (NB), Ultra-wideband (UWB), and Human Body Communications (HBC) specifications are reviewed in terms of frame structure, modulation, and other important parameters. Finally, the security paradigm and services of the standard are highlighted.

Description: This research aims at separation of polyphenols from Jordanian olive mill wastewater which have possible applications in pharmaceutical industry. The phenolic compounds were isolated using silica column chromatography based on using different solvents after extracting the acidified solution with n-hexane and ethyl acetate. The structural elucidation of the separated compounds was achieved using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass spectrometry. The concentrations of these compounds were determined by GC-MS after derivatization with N, O-bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA). The concentrations of the main isolated phenolic compounds in the Jordanian olive mill wastewater were ferulic acid (93.6 mg/L), trans-cinnamic acid (105.3 mg/L), p-coumaric acid (117.0 mg/L), vanillic acid (128.7 mg/L), caffeic acid (140.4 mg/L), tyrosol (210.6 mg/L), and hydroxytyrosol (315.9 mg/L).

Description: Background. Neonatal sepsis diagnosis is a challenge because of its nonspecific presentation together with low sensitivity of the time-consuming bacterial cultures. So, many sepsis markers, like C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), and interleukin-6 (IL-6), are emerging to improve its diagnosis. Aim. This study was done to investigate the role of CRP, PCT, and IL-6 in promoting the early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis in an attempt to decrease morbidity and mortality. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 neonates suspected with sepsis enrolled from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Zagazig University Hospitals, Egypt. Blood cultures for these neonates were done before starting antibiotics. Also, bacterial DNA was revealed from the blood by broad-range 16S rDNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Measurements of CRP using the immunoturbidimetry method, PCT using fluorescence immunoassay quantitative method, and IL-6 using commercially available ELISA kit were done to all enrolled neonates. Results. Forty-one neonates with proved sepsis were found to be positive in blood culture and/or PCR for bacterial 16S rDNA. The most common isolated organisms were Klebsiella (61.3%), followed by E. coli (9.7%) and CONS (9.7%). We detected much significant higher levels of PCT, CRP, and IL-6 in the proved sepsis group than the suspected neonatal sepsis cases (p≤0.001, 0.001, and 0.004, respectively). Serum PCT levels showed the highest sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, and accuracy of 97.6%, 89%, 97%, 88.9%, and 96% than other studied sepsis markers. Conclusion. PCT has satisfactory characteristics as a good marker than IL-6 and CRP for the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.

Description: In this attempt, we introduce a new technique to solve main generalized Abel’s integral equations and generalized weakly singular Volterra integral equations analytically. This technique is based on the Adomian decomposition method, Laplace transform method, and Ψ-Riemann–Liouville fractional integrals. Finally, some examples are proposed and they illustrate the rapidness of our new technical method.

Description: A general approach is proposed to determine occupant behavior (occupancy and activity) in offices and residential buildings in order to use these estimates for improved energy management. Occupant behavior is modelled with a Bayesian network in an unsupervised manner. This algorithm makes use of domain knowledge gathered via questionnaires and recorded sensor data for motion detection, power, and hot water consumption as well as indoor CO2 concentration. Different case studies have been investigated with diversity according to their context (available sensors, occupancy or activity feedback, complexity of the environment, etc.). Furthermore, experiments integrating occupancy estimation and hot water production control show that energy efficiency can be increased by roughly 5% over known optimal control techniques and more than 25% over rule-based control while maintaining the same occupant comfort.
