Description: Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) connect with the physical world via communication networks, which significantly increases security risks of CPSs. To secure the sensitive data, secure forwarding is an essential component of CPSs. However, CPSs require high dimensional multiattribute and multilevel security requirements due to the significantly increased system scale and diversity, and hence impose high demand on the secure forwarding information query and storage. To tackle these challenges, we propose a practical secure data forwarding scheme for CPSs. Considering the limited storage capability and computational power of entities, we adopt bloom filter to store the secure forwarding information for each entity, which can achieve well balance between the storage consumption and query delay. Furthermore, a novel link-based bloom filter construction method is designed to reduce false positive rate during bloom filter construction. Finally, the effects of false positive rate on the performance of bloom filter-based secure forwarding with different routing policies are discussed.

Description: Context-aware recommender systems generate more relevant recommendations by adapting them to the specific contextual situation of the user and have become one of the most active research areas in the recommender systems. However, there remains a key issue as how contextual information can be used to create intelligent and useful recommender systems. To assist the development and use of context-aware recommendation capabilities, we propose a graph-based framework to model and incorporate contextual information into the recommendation process in an advantageous way. A contextual graph-based relevance measure (CGR) is specifically designed to assess the potential relevance between the target user and the items further used to make an item recommendation. We also propose a probabilistic-based postfiltering strategy to refine the recommendation results as contextual conditions are explicitly given in a query. Depending on the experimental results on the two datasets, the CGR-based method is much superior to the traditional collaborative filtering methods, and the proposed postfiltering method is much effective in context-aware recommendation scenario.

Description: With the development of mobile communication networks and intelligent terminals, recent years have witnessed a rapid popularization of location-based service (LBS). While obtaining convenient services, the exploitation of mass location data is inevitably leading to a serious concern about location privacy security. Obviously, high quality of service (QoS) will result in poor location privacy protection, so that a trade-off is needed to fulfill users’ individual demands for both sides. Although existing methods perform well in certain scenarios, few have considered the abovementioned balance problem. Therefore, by combining -anonymity-based cloaking technique and obfuscation method, a new distributed user-demand-driven (DUDD) location privacy protection scheme is put forward in this paper. The basic idea is still to select a subcloaking area within the cloaking area generated by Location Anonymization Server. Moreover, by using the improved LBS system model, this paper constructs a distributed framework, in which location privacy protection is wholly occupied in server side and LBS provider is only dedicated to QoS-guarantee. In addition, normalized privacy demand and QoS metrics are given and a user-defined weight parameter is introduced to ensure location privacy security without decreasing QoS. The feasibility of the proposed method is proved through simulation.

Description: The extraction of road centerline from the classified image is a fundamental image analysis technology. Common problems encountered in road centerline extraction include low ability for coping with the general case, production of undesired objects, and inefficiency. To tackle these limitations, this paper presents a novel accurate centerline extraction method using Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and subspace constraint mean shift (SCMS). The proposed method consists of three main steps. GMM is first used to partition the classified image into several clusters. The major axis of the ellipsoid of each cluster is extracted and deemed to be taken as the initial centerline. Finally, the initial result is adjusted using SCMS to produce precise road centerline. Both simulated and real datasets are used to validate the proposed method. Preliminary results demonstrate that the proposed method provides a comparatively robust solution for accurate centerline extraction from a classified image.

Description: This work is aimed at reviewing the chemical characteristics and evaluation of the quality of exploited groundwater in Beijiao water source of Yinchuan. A coupled model based on osculating value method (OVM) and entropy is proposed to determine the suitability for drinking. Besides, phreatic water and confined water are evaluated for irrigation purposes and industrial purposes, respectively. Piper diagram shows different hydrochemical characteristics between aquifers, which can be explained by the control mechanisms revealed by Gibbs diagram. Chloroalkaline indices and ions relationship indicate that reverse ion exchanges occur in different aquifers. Based on the osculating values, 96% of the phreatic water samples are fit for human consumption, and the confined water can provide quality drinking water. Most of the phreatic water samples have no sodium hazard but have magnesium hazard. All the confined water samples generate mild foaming reaction, and 93% of them are mildly corrosive for boilers. An assessment by OVM without entropy is calculated. Similar results to the coupled model demonstrate that pure OVM is also objective and valid. The simple algorithm turns multicriteria decision-making problems into an integrated index which is just as useful to water quality assessment.

Description: Because the sensor response is dependent on its operating temperature, modulated temperature operation is usually applied in gas sensors for the identification of different gases. In this paper, the modulated operating temperature of microhotplate gas sensors combined with a feature extraction method based on Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) is introduced. Because the gas concentration in the ambient air usually has high fluctuation, STFT is applied to extract transient features from time-frequency domain, and the relationship between the STFT spectrum and sensor response is further explored. Because of the low thermal time constant, the sufficient discriminatory information of different gases is preserved in the envelope of the response curve. Feature information tends to be contained in the lower frequencies, but not at higher frequencies. Therefore, features are extracted from the STFT amplitude values at the frequencies ranging from 0 Hz to the fundamental frequency to accomplish the identification task. These lower frequency features are extracted and further processed by decision tree-based pattern recognition. The proposed method shows high classification capability by the analysis of different concentration of carbon monoxide, methane, and ethanol.

Description: Actual evapotranspiration was observed by using eddy covariance (EC) technique, calculated by micrometeorological method the Bowen ratio energy balance (BREB) and measured by micro-lysimeter (ML) in the Suli alpine meadow which located in the northeastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau noted for its high elevation and cold environment during the growing season in 2011. Results showed that the energy balance ratio for half-hour data was 0.74. Without consideration of uncertainty, the evapotranspiration values estimated by BREB, ML, and EC were 270.6 mm, 238.9 mm, and 236.1 mm, respectively. Significant correlation existed between the evapotranspiration results by the three methods. Uncertainties of the evapotranspiration estimation by BREB, ML, and EC were 19.6 mm, 15.6 mm, and 15.1 mm, respectively. Deduced by facts on the natural and vegetation conditions, the value of evapotranspiration should be equal to that of precipitation, that is, about 252 mm. From this point, the evapotranspiration values estimated by the three methods were within a reliable range. The EC method has larger advantage and wider scope for the estimation of evapotranspiration in alpine meadow area.

Description: Localization is a key issue for wireless sensor network. The traditional localization methods achieve high location accuracy using received signal strength (RSS) in line of sight (LOS) environment. But the localization accuracy degrades significantly in nonline of sight (NLOS) environment. So the localization in NLOS environment is one of the most challenging for wireless sensor network. In this paper, we propose an RSS based localization algorithm in NLOS environment. A NLOS identification algorithm is firstly proposed. This algorithm does not need the parameters of the NLOS in prior. Then we correct the NLOS measurements by subtracting the mean of NLOS errors. Finally, the Kalman filter is employed to mitigate the process noise. In simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves higher localization accuracy compared with other methods.

Description: Mobile localization using distributed sensor network has attracted significant research interest in recent years. One of the main challenges for mobile location estimation is the presence of the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation. It results in erroneous measurements containing NLOS error due to the reflection and diffraction. The NLOS error could seriously reduce the localization accuracy. This paper presents a novel mobile localization method for distributed sensor network in NLOS propagation scenarios. The aim of the method is to mitigate the NLOS error and enhance the localization accuracy. The transition between the LOS and NLOS is described by two-state Markov model. The interacting multiple model frame is employed to estimate the position of unknown node. The probability data association algorithm is used to filter the estimated location. The simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the traditional filter method in NLOS scenarios.
