Description: Automated quantification of blood vessels in human retina is the fundamental step in designing any computer-aided diagnosis system for ophthalmic disorders. Detection and analysis of variations in blood vessels can be used to diagnose several ocular diseases like diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic Retinopathy is a progressive vascular disorder caused due to variations in blood vessels of retina. These variations bring different abnormalities like lesions, exudates, and hemorrhages in human retina which make the vessel detection problematic. Therefore, automated retinal analysis is required to cater the effect of lesions while segmenting blood vessels. The proposed framework presents two improved approaches to carry out vessel segmentation in the presence of lesions. The paper mainly aims to extract true vessels by reducing the effect of abnormal structures significantly. First method is a supervised approach which extracts true vessels by performing region based analysis of retinal image, while second method intends to remove lesions before extracting blood vessels by using an inpainting technique. Both methods are evaluated on STARE and DRIVE and on our own database AFIO. Experimental results demonstrate the excellence of the proposed system.

Description: Recently, the use of NoSQL databases has grown to manage unstructured data for applications to ensure performance and scalability. However, many organizations prefer to transfer data from an operational NoSQL database to a SQL-based relational database for using existing tools for business intelligence, analytics, decision making, and reporting. The existing methods of NoSQL to relational database transformation require manual schema mapping, which requires domain expertise and consumes noticeable time. Therefore, an efficient and automatic method is needed to transform an unstructured NoSQL database into a structured database. In this paper, we proposed and evaluated an efficient method to transform a NoSQL database into a relational database automatically. In our experimental evaluation, we used MongoDB as a NoSQL database, and MySQL and PostgreSQL as relational databases to perform transformation tasks for different dataset sizes. We observed excellent performance, compared to the existing state-of-the-art methods, in transforming data from a NoSQL database into a relational database.

Description: In a cognitive radio network (CRN), secondary users (SUs) utilize primary users (PUs) licensed spectrum in an opportunistic manner. Spectrum sensing is of the utmost importance in CRN to find and use the available spectrum without harmful interference to the PUs. Conventionally, to implement spectrum utilization, SUs are required to sense the primary spectrum first and then transmit data on the available spectrum. In this paper, we propose a dedicated wireless spectrum sensing network (WSSN), eliminating sensing overhead from SUs with the aim of improving achievable throughput. With WSSN assistance, we eliminate sensing time from the SUs frame, hence increasing the transmission time, which maximizes the achievable throughput. Additionally, the sensing duration is increased by deploying a dedicated WSSN, decreasing the probability of false alarm and achieving a targeted high probability of detection. A low probability of false alarm increases the spectrum utilization, improving the achievable throughput, while a high detection probability ensures PUs protection. Moreover, the proposed technique also addresses hidden and exposed terminal problems along with smooth spectrum mobility. Finally, we provide simulation results to demonstrate the proposed techniques, effectiveness. In the results, we have compared the achievable throughput of the proposed scheme with that of conventional CRN.

Description: Wireless sensor network (WSN) is considered as the enabling technology to bridge the gap between the physical and digital world. Some of the applications environments of WSN require a mobile sink to operate in the sensor field where delayed and/or partial data delivery might lead to inappropriate conclusions and thus require high quality of service in terms of latency and packets delivery ratio. Majority of existing mobile sink based data dissemination schemes aim to prolong network lifetime whereas few schemes improve the data delivery performance by employing multiple mobile sinks which add to the hardware and operating cost. In this paper we propose a virtual grid based data dissemination (VGDD) scheme that aims to optimize the tradeoff between network lifetime and data delivery performance while adhering to the low cost theme of WSN. Using the virtual structure, the proposed VGDD scheme follows a set of rules to disseminate sink’s mobility updates in an energy efficient manner thereby maintaining nearly optimal routes. Furthermore, to cope with speed’s variation of mobile sink, VGDD makes use of appropriate forwarder nodes for guaranteed data delivery. Simulation results reveal improved data delivery performance in terms of latency and data delivery ratio compared to existing work.

Description: we use the modified variation of parameters method for finding the analytical solution of a system of third-order nonlinear boundary value problems associated with obstacle, unilateral, and contact problems. The results are calculated in terms of convergent series with easily computable components. The suggested technique is applied without any discretization, perturbation, transformation, and restrictive assumptions. Moreover, it is free from round off errors. Some examples are given to illustrate the implementation and efficiency of the modified variation of parameters method.

Description: This paper describes a hardware architecture for real-time image component labeling and the computation of image component feature descriptors. These descriptors are object related properties used to describe each image component. Embedded machine vision systems demand a robust performance and power efficiency as well as minimum area utilization, depending on the deployed application. In the proposed architecture, the hardware modules for component labeling and feature calculation run in parallel. A CMOS image sensor (MT9V032), operating at a maximum clock frequency of 27 MHz, was used to capture the images. The architecture was synthesized and implemented on a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA. The developed architecture is capable of processing 390 video frames per second of size 640 × 480 pixels. Dynamic power consumption is 13 mW at 86 frames per second.

Description: With the promise of cost effective, unobtrusive, and unsupervised continuous monitoring, wireless body sensor networks (WBSNs) have attracted a wide range of monitoring applications such as medical and healthcare, sport activity, and rehabilitation systems. Most WBSN’s medical and healthcare applications are real-time and life-critical, which require strict guarantee of quality of service (QoS), in terms of latency, and reliability. Reliability in routing plays key role in providing the overall reliability in WBSNs. This paper presents reliability aware routing (RAR) for intra-WBSNs that aims to provide high reliability for reliability constraint data packets. It considers the high and dynamic path loss due to body postural movements and temperature rise of the implanted biomedical sensor nodes. We have used two network models in this paper: RAR without Relays (RAR) and RAR with Relays (RARR). The simulation results reveal that RARR outperforms the other state-of-the-art schemes while RAR has slightly low reliability at low data rates as compared to RARR but significantly higher than other state-of-the-art schemes.

Description: The combined effects of heat transfer and chemical reaction are studied for the flow through a semi-infinite asymmetric channel with orthogonally deformable porous walls. The similarity transforms have been used to reduce the conservation laws to a corresponding system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations are solved, both analytically and numerically, by using Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) and the fourth-order Runge-Kutta (RK-4) method, respectively. The convergence of the analytical solution is assured through the so-called total squared residual error analysis. The optimal values of auxiliary parameters are obtained by minimizing the total squared residual error.
