Description: Considering the inherent disadvantages that severely affect driving comfortability during the shift process in HEVs, a dynamic shift coordinated control based on motor active speed synchronization is proposed to improve shift quality by reduction of shift vibration. The whole control scheme is comprised of three phases, preparatory phase, speed regulation phase, and synchronization phase, which are implemented consecutively in order. The key to inhibiting impact and jerk depends on the speed regulation phase, where motor active speed synchronization is utilized to reach the minimum speed difference between the two ends of synchronizer. A new hybrid system with superior performances is applied to present the validity of the adopted control algorithm during upshift or downshift, which can represent planetary gear system and conventional AMT shift procedure, respectively. Bench test, simulation, and road test results show that, compared with other methods, the proposed dynamic coordinated control can achieve shifting control in real time to effectively improve gear-shift comfort and shorten power interruption transients, with robustness in both conventional AMT and planetary gear train.

Description: This study addresses one of the most essential distributed control problems in multiagent systems, called the average consensus issue, using a new event-triggered sampling control perspective. Although the continuous-time sampling for average consensus has provided good results currently, a systematic investigation into the continuous-time agent dynamics with sampled-data control inputs under an event-triggered mechanism is critically lacking. The problem considered in this paper can be formulated into an average consensus problem of hybrid systems. The method considers three types of control schemes, among which periodic sampling is integrant. The first scheme is a classical sampling controller reinvestigated through a lemma. The second scheme realizes aperiodic control update as well as periodic communication, while the third scheme achieves both aspects aperiodically. Corresponding sufficient conditions of the aforementioned three schemes are derived such that the asymptotic stability of systems is ensured by using algebraic graph theory, matrix analysis, and Lyapunov theory. The constraints for the allowed sampling period, event parameter, and maximum eigenvalue of graph Laplacian are explicitly derived. Moreover, the potential Zeno behavior of agents due to the sampling control theory is avoided. Thus, a digitally implementable technique is provided. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical analysis.

Description: This research addressed a rapid method to monitor hardwood chemical composition by applying Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, with particular interest in model performance for interpretation and prediction. Partial least squares (PLS) and principal components regression (PCR) were chosen as the primary models for comparison. Standard laboratory chemistry methods were employed on a mixed genus/species hardwood sample set to collect the original data. PLS was found to provide better predictive capability while PCR exhibited a more precise estimate of loading peaks and suggests that PCR is better for model interpretation of key underlying functional groups. Specifically, when PCR was utilized, an error in peak loading of ±15 cm−1 from the true mean was quantified. Application of the first derivative appeared to assist in improving both PCR and PLS loading precision. Research results identified the wavenumbers important in the prediction of extractives, lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose and further demonstrated the utility in FT-IR for rapid monitoring of wood chemistry.

Description: Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a nonparametric approach for measuring the relative efficiencies of peer decision-making units (DMUs). For systems with two-stage structures, where all the outputs from the first stage are the only inputs to the second stage, the centralized model, which is based on the concept of cooperative game theory, has been widely used to examine the efficiencies of such systems. We define the cross efficiencies of systems with two-stage structures. Since the centralized model may lead to multiple and unacceptable cross efficiencies and rankings of DMUs due to its high flexibility in choosing optimal weights on input and output factors, we develop a game model to obtain a unique cross efficiency measure, which is constructed from the perspective of noncooperative game. An iterative algorithm is then proposed to obtain the game cross efficiencies for the overall systems and subsystems. We use the proposed game model to evaluate the performance of top 30 US commercial banks. The results show that the game model can lead to a unique reasonable cross efficiency for each DMU.

Description: We present an efficient strategy for reducing the memory requirement for the near-field matrix in the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) for solving multiscale electromagnetic (EM) scattering problems. A multiscale problem can obviously lower the storage efficiency of the MLFMA for the near-field matrix. This paper focuses on overcoming this shortcoming to a certain extent. A hybrid tree structure for the MLFMA that possesses two kinds of bottom-layer boxes with different edge sizes will be built to significantly reduce the memory requirement for the near-field matrix in the multiscale case compared with the single-tree-structure technique. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed scheme in the multiscale EM scattering.

Description: A positivity-preserving numerical method for nonlinear Black-Scholes models is developed in this paper. The numerical method is based on a nonstandard approximation of the second partial derivative. The scheme is not only unconditionally stable and positive, but also allows us to solve the discrete equation explicitly. Monotone properties are studied in order to avoid unwanted oscillations of the numerical solution. The numerical results for European put option and European butterfly spread are compared to the standard finite difference scheme. It turns out that the proposed scheme is efficient and reliable.

Description: A method for fast generating the VIE-MoM matrix with the SWG functions is proposed. This method makes the integrals representing the shared data independent of any quadratures and hence can ensure both the efficiency and accuracy. In the VIE-MoM, the time cost of filling the VIE-MoM matrix is prominent especially for an electrically large object. With the proposed method, the time cost of filling the VIE-MoM matrix can be reduced by about 85% compared with the traditional basis-basis matching method. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.

Description: Trip mode split is the result of interrelated and mutually independent factors, such as city scale, urban form, economic level, trip distance, and travel time. In order to analyze the formation of traffic structure, it is necessary to make a comprehensive study on the mechanism of these factors and obtain the basic causal relationship of them. Based on this, by using the hierarchical structure model in system engineering, this paper firstly clarifies the logical relationship of different factors. Then, the existing trip survey data of several cities is used to establish the mathematical relationship of various factors of the structure model. Finally, the mode choice forecasting method is proposed based on the structure model of influencing factors. The case study result of six cities shows small bias, indicating that the proposed method is of great practical value. Policy makers can use the results to discover the trip structure feature and grasp the direction of transportation development policy.

Description: Pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) is an effective way for navigation coupled with GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) or weak GNSS signal environment like indoor scenario. However, indoor location with an accuracy of 1 to 2 meters determined by PDR based on MEMS-IMU is still very challenging. For one thing, heading estimation is an important problem in PDR because of the singularities. For another thing, walking distance estimation is also a critical problem for pedestrian walking with randomness. Based on the above two problems, this paper proposed axis-exchanged compensation and gait parameters analysis algorithm to improve the navigation accuracy. In detail, an axis-exchanged compensation factored quaternion algorithm is put forward first to overcome the singularities in heading estimation without increasing the amount of computation. Besides, real-time heading is updated by R-adaptive Kalman filter. Moreover, gait parameters analysis algorithm can be divided into two steps: cadence detection and step length estimation. Thus, a method of cadence classification and interval symmetry is proposed to detect the cadence accurately. Furthermore, a step length model adjusted by cadence is established for step length estimation. Compared to the traditional PDR navigation, experimental results showed that the error of navigation reduces 32.6%.
