Description: With the rapid development of global positioning technologies and the pervasiveness of intelligent mobile terminals, trajectory data have shown a sharp growth trend both in terms of data volume and coverage. In recent years, increasing numbers of LBS (location based service) applications have provided us with trajectory data services such as traffic flow statistics and user behavior pattern analyses. However, the storage and query efficiency of massive trajectory data are increasingly creating a bottleneck for these applications, especially for large-scale spatiotemporal query scenarios. To solve this problem, we propose a new spatiotemporal indexing method to improve the query efficiency of massive trajectory data. First, the method extends the GeoSOT spatial partitioning scheme to the time dimension and forms a global space–time subdivision scheme. Second, a novel multilevel spatiotemporal grid index, called the GeoSOT ST-index, was constructed to organize trajectory data hierarchically. Finally, a spatiotemporal range query processing method is proposed based on the index. We implement and evaluate the index in MongoDB. By comparing the range query efficiency and scalability of our index with those of the other two space–time composite indexes, we found that our approach improves query efficiency levels by approximately 40% and has better scalability under different data volumes.

Description: We present novel Gauss integration schemes with radial basis point interpolation method (RPIM). These techniques define new Gauss integration scheme, researching Gauss points (RGD), and reconstructing Gauss domain (RGD), respectively. The developments lead to a curtailment of the elapsed CPU time without loss of the accuracy. Numerical results show that the schemes reduce the computational time to 25% or less in general.

Description: Transesterification of oils and lipids in supercritical methanol is commonly carried out in the absence of a catalyst. In this work, supercritical methanol, carbon dioxide, and acetic acid were used to produce biodiesel from soybean oil. Supercritical carbon dioxide was added to reduce the reaction temperature and increase the fats dissolved in the reaction medium. Acetic acid was added to reduce the glycerol byproduct and increase the hydrolysis of fatty acids. The Taguchi method was used to identify optimal conditions in the biodiesel production process. With an optimal reaction temperature of 280°C, a methanol-to-oil ratio of 60, and an acetic acid-to-oil ratio of 3, a 97.83% yield of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) was observed after 90 min at a reaction pressure of 20 MPa. While the common approach to biodiesel production results in a glycerol byproduct of about 10% of the yield, the practices reported in this research can reduce the glycerol byproduct by 30.2% and thereby meet international standards requiring a FAME content of 〉96%.
