    Description: The key to successful strategy implementation in an organization is for people in the organization to understand it, which requires the establishment of complicated but vital processes whereby the intangible assets are converted into tangible outputs. In this regard, a strategy map is a useful tool that helps execute this difficult task. However, such maps are typically developed based on ambiguous cause-effect relationships that result from the extrapolation of past data and flawed links with possible futures. However, if the strategy map is a mere reflection of the status quo but not future conditions and does not embrace real-world uncertainties, it will endanger the organization since it posits that the current situation will continue. In order to compensate for this deficiency, the environmental scenarios affecting an organization were identified in the present study. Then the strategy map was developed in the form of a scenario-based balanced scorecard. Besides, the effect of environmental changes on the components of the strategy map was investigated using the strategy maps illustrated over time together with the corresponding cash flow vectors. Subsequently, a method was proposed to calculate the degree of robustness of every component of the strategy map for the contingency of every scenario. Finally, the results were applied to a post office.

    Description: New substituted thieno-fused bicyclic compounds named (1H-pyrazol-3-yl)thieno[2,3-b]pyridin-4(7H)-one derivatives (4a,b), 2-([1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-7-yl)-3-methyl-7-phenylthieno[2,3-b]pyridin-4(7H)-one (5), phenylthieno[2,3-b]pyridin-4(7H)-one derivatives (6a–c, 7a–c, and 8), and 3-(3-methyl-4-oxo-7-phenyl-4,7-dihydrothieno[2,3-b]pyridin-2-yl)-3-oxopropyl 4-chlorobenzoate (9) were synthesized by reacting the new enaminone (3) with different reagents. The chemical structure of the new molecules was determined by means of different spectroscopic methods such as NMR, IR, MS spectrometry, and by CHN analyses. The molecular structure of the 1,1′-(3-methyl-5-(phenylamino)thiophene-2,4-diyl)diethanone (2) was successfully solved by X-ray single crystal.

    Description: A series of barbiturates derivatives synthesized and screened for different set of bioassays are described. The molecular structures of compounds 5a, 5d, and 5f were solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The results of bioassay show that compounds 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e, 4f, and 4g are potent antioxidants in comparison to the tested standards, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and -acetylcysteine. Compounds 4a–4e () and 4g () were more potent antioxidants than the standard (BHT, ). The enzyme inhibition potential of these compounds was also evaluated, in vitro, against thymidine phosphorylase, -glucosidase, and -glucuronidase enzymes. Compounds 4c, 4h, , 4p, 4q, 5f, and 5m were found to be potent -glucosidase inhibitors and showed more activity than the standard drug acarbose, whereas compounds 4v, and 5h were found to be potent thymidine phosphorylase inhibitors, more active than the standard drug, 7-deazaxanthine. All barbiturates derivatives (4a–4x, 4z, and 5a–5m) were found to be noncytotoxic against human prostate (PC-3), Henrietta Lacks cervical (HeLa) and Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 breast (MCF-7) cancer cell lines, and 3T3 normal fibroblast cell line, except 4y which was cytotoxic against all the cell lines.

    Description: An alternative block method for solving fifth-order initial value problems (IVPs) is proposed with an adaptive strategy of implementing variable step size. The derived method is designed to compute four solutions simultaneously without reducing the problem to a system of first-order IVPs. To validate the proposed method, the consistency and zero stability are also discussed. The improved performance of the developed method is demonstrated by comparing it with the existing methods and the results showed that the 4-point block method is suitable for solving fifth-order IVPs.

    Description: Two-point block method with variable step-size strategy is presented to obtain the solutions for boundary value problems directly. Dirichlet type and Neumann type of boundary conditions are studied in this paper. Multiple shooting techniques adapted with the three-step iterative method are employed for generating the guessing value. Six boundary value problems are solved using the proposed method, and the numerical results are compared to the existing methods. The results suggest a significant improvement in the efficiency of the proposed methods in terms of the number of steps, execution time, and accuracy.

    Description: We propose a new meshless method to solve a backward inverse heat conduction problem. The numerical scheme, based on the fundamental solution of the heat equation and radial basis functions (RBFs), is used to obtain a numerical solution. Since the coefficients matrix is ill-conditioned, the Tikhonov regularization (TR) method is employed to solve the resulted system of linear equations. Also, the generalized cross-validation (GCV) criterion is applied to choose a regularization parameter. A test problem demonstrates the stability, accuracy, and efficiency of the proposed method.

    Description: Although most research in density-based clustering algorithms focused on finding distinct clusters, many real-world applications (such as gene functions in a gene regulatory network) have inherently overlapping clusters. Even with overlapping features, density-based clustering methods do not define a probabilistic model of data. Therefore, it is hard to determine how “good” clustering, predicting, and clustering new data into existing clusters are. Therefore, a probability model for overlap density-based clustering is a critical need for large data analysis. In this paper, a new Bayesian density-based method (Bayesian-OverDBC) for modeling the overlapping clusters is presented. Bayesian-OverDBC can predict the formation of a new cluster. It can also predict the overlapping of cluster with existing clusters. Bayesian-OverDBC has been compared with other algorithms (nonoverlapping and overlapping models). The results show that Bayesian-OverDBC can be significantly better than other methods in analyzing microarray data.

    Description: In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Context Awareness is typically realized through Context Aware Systems (CASs). Although almost each CAS follows sense-decide-adapt cycle, the notion of context is hardwired into the applications; that is, when an event is triggered, the sense-decide-actuate cycle runs and performs required actuation. In situations, for instance, whenever the same event is triggered, the cycle produces the same actuation through mechanical use of the same resources, posing the same processing and time. In this paper, we propose CRAM, a context added system in which actuations once performed by the system help it to internally evolve by serving as new contexts. As the system is exposed to more situations overtime, its context repository is enriched through such retrospective contexts, gradually letting it perform internal actuation through improved introspective contexts. This internal actuation leads the system towards the evolution of intelligent processing by reducing the independent function of decision in sense-decide-actuate cycle and merging it with new context. Finally, the system reaches a juncture where recurrence of each event proves to be a stimulus for the system to respond impulsively, through priming memory of introspective contexts, to achieve an imitation of learned reflex action resulting into reduced time and energy expenditure.

    Description: We propose two routing protocols for Terrestrial Wireless Sensor Networks (TWSNs): Hybrid Energy Efficient Reactive (HEER) and Multihop Hybrid Energy Efficient Reactive (MHEER) routing protocol. The main purpose of designing these protocols is to improve the network lifetime and particularly the stability period of the underlying network. In MHEER, the node with the maximum energy in a region becomes cluster head (CH) of that region for that particular round (or cycle) of time and the number of the CHs in each round remains the same. Our techniques outperform the well-known existing routing protocols: LEACH, TEEN, and DEEC in terms of stability period and network lifetime. We also calculate the confidence interval of all our results which helps us to visualize the possible deviation of our graphs from the mean value. We also implement sink mobility on HEER and MHEER. We refer to them as HEER-SM and MHEER-SM. Simulation results show that HEER-SM and MHEER-SM yield better network lifetime and stability region as compared to the counterpart techniques. We have also carried out simulations with 500 and 1000 nodes in the same field dimensions besides 100 nodes. Simulations prove that the proposed schemes show the same behavior with 500 and 1000 nodes; that is, HEER and MHEER are scalable as well.

    Description: Background/Aim. Clinical learning is a main part of nursing education. Students’ exposure to clinical learning environment is one of the most important factors affecting the teaching-learning process in clinical settings. Identifying challenges of nursing students in the clinical learning environment could improve training and enhance the quality of its planning and promotion of the students. We aimed to explore Iranian nursing students’ challenges in the clinical learning environment. Materials and Methods. This is a qualitative study using the content analysis approach. The participants consisted of seventeen nursing students and three nursing instructors. The participants were selected through purposive sampling method and attended semistructured interviews and focus groups. Results. Three themes emerged after data analysis, including ineffective communications, inadequate readiness, and emotional reactions. Conclusion. Nursing students in Iran are faced with many challenges in the clinical learning environment. All challenges identified in this study affected the students’ learning in clinical setting. Therefore, we recommend that the instructors prepare students with a specific focus on their communication and psychological needs.
