Description: Dense stereo correspondence enabling reconstruction of depth information in a scene is of great importance in the field of computer vision. Recently, some local solutions based on matching cost filtering with an edge-preserving filter have been proved to be capable of achieving more accuracy than global approaches. Unfortunately, the computational complexity of these algorithms is quadratically related to the window size used to aggregate the matching costs. The recent trend has been to pursue higher accuracy with greater efficiency in execution. Therefore, this paper proposes a new cost-aggregation module to compute the matching responses for all the image pixels at a set of sampling points generated by a hierarchical clustering algorithm. The complexity of this implementation is linear both in the number of image pixels and the number of clusters. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art local methods in terms of both accuracy and speed. Moreover, performance tests indicate that parameters such as the height of the hierarchical binary tree and the spatial and range standard deviations have a significant influence on time consumption and the accuracy of disparity maps.

Description: A multitype wireless sensor network (WSN) for structural health monitoring is developed for the National Stadium in China (generally known as “Bird’s Nest”). The stadium is a super large-scale building built for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and can house more than 90,000 occupants. The structure is very rigid and weighs more than 40,000 tons in total. Considering the structural features and on-site environment, the system takes multitype sensors as measurement components including stress, displacement, acceleration, wind, and temperature. The monitoring module design consists of four functions: sensing, processing, wireless communication, and energy management. The communication between each sensor node is realized by using an adjustable and artificial-control chain-type network. A total of 290 sensors were installed on the structure, and the data collection work has been carried out for more than one year. This paper mainly focuses on the system development and project application, while the data analysis work is briefly discussed as well. It can be concluded that the customized WSN is robust and durable, which well satisfies the requirement of plenty multitype sensors working in a large-area distribution. The data analysis results reveal that the super large-scale structure is very sensitive to the temperature effect.

Description: The goal of this paper is to study an initial boundary value problem of stochastic viscoelastic wave equation with nonlinear damping and source terms. Under certain conditions on the initial data: the relaxation function, the indices of nonlinear damping, and source terms and the random force, we prove the local existence and uniqueness of solution by the Galerkin approximation method. Then, considering the relationship between the indices of nonlinear damping and nonlinear source, we give the necessary conditions of global existence and explosion in finite time in some sense of solutions, respectively.

Description: This paper is concerned with the convergence, global superconvergence, local superconvergence, and stability of collocation methods for . The optimal convergence order and superconvergence order are obtained, and the stability regions for the collocation methods are determined. The conditions that the analytic stability region is contained in the numerical stability region are obtained, and some numerical experiments are given.

Description: This paper introduces an invariant Hough random ferns (IHRF) incorporating rotation and scale invariance into the local feature description, random ferns classifier training, and Hough voting stages. It is especially suited for object detection under changes in object appearance and scale, partial occlusions, and pose variations. The efficacy of this approach is validated through experiments on a large set of challenging benchmark datasets, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art conventional methods such as bounding-box-based and part-based methods. Additionally, we also propose an efficient clustering scheme based on the local patches’ appearance and their geometric relations that can provide pixel-accurate, top-down segmentations from IHRF back-projections. This refined segmentation can be used to improve the quality of online object tracking because it avoids the drifting problem. Thus, an online tracking framework based on IHRF, which is trained and updated in each frame to distinguish and segment the object from the background, is established. Finally, the experimental results on both object segmentation and long-term object tracking show that this method yields accurate and robust tracking performance in a variety of complex scenarios, especially in cases of severe occlusions and nonrigid deformations.

Description: The wireless body area networks (WBANs) have emerged as a new method for e-healthcare. Without being measured face-to-face, the medical workers can give guidance to patients in a real-time way. WBANs can greatly improve the healthcare quality. The personal information and medical data are stored and processed in sensors. The security and privacy are two vital issues. In this paper, we design an attribute-based encryption scheme for fine-grained access control in WBANs. In our scheme, a user can decrypt a ciphertext if the attributes related with a ciphertext satisfy the user’s access structure. The users can be revoked if necessary. Therefore, the security and privacy of patients can be protected. Our scheme provides confidentiality, security, and resistance to collusion attack. We analyze the correctness, security, and energy consumption of the scheme.

Description: The beam string structure (BSS) is a type of prestressed structure and has been widely used in large span structures nowadays. The adaptive BSS is a typical smart structure that can optimize the working status itself by controlling the length of active struts via certain control device. The control device commonly consists of actuators in all struts and sensors on the beam. The key point of the control process is to determine the length adjustment values of actuators according to the data obtained by preinstalled sensors. In this paper, a static control algorithm for adaptive BSS has been presented for the adjustment solution. To begin with, an optimization model of adaptive BSS with multiple active struts is established, which uses a sensitivity analysis method. Next, a linear displacement control process is presented, and the adjustment values of struts are calculated by a simulated annealing algorithm. A nonlinear iteration procedure is used afterwards to calibrate the results of linear calculation. Finally, an example of adaptive BSS under different external loads is carried out to verify the feasibility and accuracy of the algorithm. And the results also show that the adaptive BSS has much better adaptivity and capability than the noncontrolled BSS.

Description: A new induction heating device is presented in this paper. This device can convert mechanical energy into heat energy by utilizing eddy currents, which are induced by rotating permanent magnets. A mathematical model is established for estimating eddy-current loss of the device. The distribution of induced currents and the resultant magnetic field intensity are considered in the process of modeling the eddy-current loss and so is the mutual influence of the electric field between neighborhood pole projection areas. Particularly, the skin effect is considered by correcting the numerical integral domain of eddy current density, which has great effect on the calculating results. Based on specific examples, the effectiveness and correctness of proposed model are proved by finite element analysis. The results show that the mathematical model can provide important reference for design and structure optimization of the device.

Description: In wireless communications, knowledge of channel coefficients is required for coherent demodulation. Lloyd-Max iteration is an innovative blind channel estimation method for narrowband fading channels. In this paper, it is proved that blind channel estimation based on single-level Lloyd-Max (SL-LM) iteration is not reliable for nonconstant modulus constellations (NMC). Then, we introduce multilevel Lloyd-Max (ML-LM) iteration to solve this problem. Firstly, by dividing NMC into subsets, Lloyd-Max iteration is used in multilevel. Then, the estimation information is transmitted from one level to another. By doing this, accurate blind channel estimation for NMC is achieved. Moreover, when the number of received symbols is small, we propose the lacking constellations equalization algorithm to reduce the influence of lacking constellations. Finally, phase ambiguity of ML-LM iteration is also investigated in the paper. ML-LM iteration can be more robust to the phase of fading coefficient by dividing NMC into subsets properly. As the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) increases, numerical results show that the proposed method’s mean-square error curve converges remarkably to the least squares (LS) bound with a small number of iterations.
