Notes:
The argument for the existence of gravity waves in sedimentary layers during strong earthquakes, such as the 1985 Mexico earthquake, is based on (a) theory, which predicts a discontinuity in surface wave propagation at a finite strain value; (b) effects of stress-strain non-linearity in sediments: and (c) observations suggesting the presence of ultra-short wavelengths in soils during the 1985 Mexico earthquake.
