Description:
Infiltration rates were measured for the major soil types of the Edmonton area. The soils selected covered the range from very impervious soils to open, well-drained soil types. Both undisturbed or well-consolidated soils and those recently cultivated were examined. Fallow, grass, mixed forage-crop, and grain types of cover were included. Studies of rainfall intensity in the Edmonton area, when related to the infiltration data, indicate that the likelihood of runoff occurring for a large proportion of the area is very slight. In other words, a large proportion of the precipitation will normally enter the soil readily and the erosion hazard is therefore low.
