Notes: It is shown that the electric field of Langmuir oscillations in a cold plasma contains a component, independent of time, setting ions in motion. Using Lagrange variables, one-dimensional dynamics of plasma in respect to the interaction between electron oscillations and ion movement is investigated. As a consequence of this interaction, the crossing of electron trajectories occurs even at small amplitudes at time tc, i.e., one-dimensional turbulence appears in the system. The expression for tc is derived. In time tc ion displacements as well as ion energy are found to depend only on the electron–ion mass relationship. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Description: The absorption spectrum of thin film CsPbCl 3 in the 2–6 eV range is studied at temperatures of 90–500 K. Sudden changes show up in the temperature dependences of the parameters of the long-wavelength exciton band (spectral position E m ( T ), half width Γ( T ), and oscillator strength f ( T )) at the first order phase transitions at 310 and 320. No phase transitions in E m ( T ), Γ( T ), and f ( T ) are detected at low temperatures. The exciton excitations in CsPbCl 3 are found to have a three-dimensional character.

Description: A study of the absorption spectrum of thin CuPb 2 Br 7 films in the 2–6 eV spectral and 90–500 K temperature ranges. It is shown that the exciton spectrum of the compound is associated with transitions in the lead ion. The temperature dependence of the spectral position and half-width of the low-frequency exciton band contains features associated with phase transitions γ → β ( T c 1  = 159 K) and β → α ( T c 2  = 434 K) and the disordering of the cation sublattice of the compound in the transition to the superionic state.

Description: A study of the absorption spectrum of thin KPb 2 Cl 5 films, in the spectral range of 2–6 eV, within the temperature interval 90–520 K. It is found that low-frequency exciton states are localized in the sublattice of the compound containing the Pb 2+ ions, and that they are excitons of intermediate coupling having a two-dimensional nature.

Description: An isotope-geochemical study of Eocene-Oligocene magmatic rocks from the Western Kamchatka-Koryak volcanogenic belt revealed lateral heterogeneity of mantle magma sources in its segments: Western Kamchatka, Central Koryak, and Northern Koryak ones. In the Western Kamchatka segment magmatic melts were generated from isotopically heterogeneous (depleted and/or insignificantly enriched) mantle sources significantly contaminated by quartz-feldspathic sialic sediments; higher 87Sr/86Sr (0.70429-0.70564) and lower 143Nd/144Nd [eNd(T) = 0.06-2.9] ratios in volcanic rocks from the Central Koryak segment presumably reflect contribution of an enriched mantle source; high positive eNd(T) and low 87Sr/86Sr ratios in magmatic rocks from the Northern Koryak segment area indicate their derivation from an isotopically depleted mantle source without significant contamination by sialic or mantle material enriched in radiogenic Sr and Nd. Significantly different contamination histories of Eocene-Oligocene mantle magmas in Kamchatka and Koryakia are related to their different thermal regimes: higher heat flow beneath Kamchatka led to crustal melting and contamination of mantle suprasubduction magmas by crustal melts. Cessation of suprasubduction volcanism in the Western Kamchatka segment of the continental margin belt was possibly related to accretion of the Achaivayam-Valagin terrane 40 Ma ago, whereas suprasubduction activity in the Koryak segment stopped due to closure of the Ukelayat basin in Oligocene.

Description: In September 2000 we carried out a comprehensive study of dynamics of water and suspension in the area south of the Chupa Bay adjacent to the Keret' Archipelago and the estuary of the Keret' River (Karelian coast of the White Sea) onboard R/V Ekolog. The entire study area can be divided into three estuary zones characterized by different dynamic regimes: marine, intermediate, and near-mouth zones. Autumn stratification of the water column is particularly distinct in the most dynamic marine zone. The strongest mixing of the upper layer is also observed in the marine zone. The most intensive dilution and the largest thickness of the diluted water layer are found in the near-mouth zone. On the whole in the near-mouth zone concentration of suspended matter is higher than in the intermediate and marine zones. The highest phytoplankton abundance is observed in the marine zone, whereas the lowest one is confined to the near-mouth zone. At all the stations both abundance and biomass of flagellates dominate.
