    Description: Self-healing and transverse accelerating optical vortices are generated via modulating Gaussian beams through subsequent liquid crystal q-plate and polarization Airy mask. We analyze the propagation dynamics of these vortex Airy beams, and find that they possess the features of both optical vortices and Airy beams. Topological charges and characteristics of nondiffraction, self-healing, and transverse acceleration are experimentally verified. In addition, vortex Airy beams with both topological charge and radial index are demonstrated and mode switch among Gaussian, vortex, vector, Airy beams and their combinations can be acquired easily. Our design provides a flexible and highly efficient way to generate unique optical vortices with self-healing and transverse acceleration properties, and facilitates prospective applications in optics and photonics.

    Description: We propose a new scheme to obtain a compact ultra-bright, high-energy-density γ ray source by ultra-intense laser interaction with a near-critical-density (NCD) plasmas filled gold cone-capillary. By using the particle-in-cell code EPOCH, it is shown that NCD electrons are accelerated by the laser ponderomotive force in the gold cone and emit strong radiation. Considering the effect of large radiation back-reaction force, some electrons are kicked into the laser field. The trapped electrons oscillate significantly in the transverse direction and emit ultra-bright γ ray in the forward direction. By attaching a capillary to the gold cone, the trapped electrons are able to keep oscillating for a long distance and the radiation emission can be significantly enhanced. Three-dimensional simulations show that the total γ photon flux with the photon energy in the range of 3 MeV to 30 MeV is approximately 10 13 /shot, and the corresponding peak brightness is in the order of 10 23 photons/s/mm 2 /mrad 2 /0.1%BW. The average energy-density of the radiated γ photons is about 10 17 J / m 3 , which is six orders of magnitude higher than the threshold of high-energy-density physics. The energy conversion efficiency from the laser to the γ photons is estimated to be about 5% at the irradiation of a laser with intensity ∼ 1.37 × 10 22 W / cm 2 .

    Description: Room-temperature electroluminescence (EL) is demonstrated from a light-emitting diode (LED) based on two-dimensional lead halide perovskites, (C 6 H 5 NH 3 ) 2 PbI 4 . The device has a multilayer structure of ITO/Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):Poly(styrenesulfonate)/(C 6 H 5 CH 2 NH 3 ) 2 PbI 4 /Bathophenanthroline/Al. The EL emission peaks at 526 nm with a narrow full width at half maximum of 15 nm, which origins from perovskite exciton emission. The LED device exhibits a maximum luminance of ∼9 cd m −2 at a bias of 5 V.
