    Notizen: Following Ruback, the evidence for scattering at right angle of two vortices in a head-on collision is discussed. The evidence is given in terms of the approximate solutions of the equations of motion. This makes it possible to extend the analysis to the case of a small net repulsive force between the corresponding static vortex configurations. The ordinary differential equations, which result from the ansatz for the approximate solutions, are solved by Taylor series at the origin and by asymptotic series at infinity.

    Notizen: A Cauchy problem is formulated with data that describe the scattering of two vortices in a superconductor, and the following is proven: First, a unique global finite-energy solution exists. Second, the symmetry of the solution rules out all cases other than 0°, 90°, or 180° scattering. Third, a local analytic solution exists near the origin. The leading terms of this solution show that, of the three cases, 90° scattering is realized.

    Notizen: Axially symmetric gauge field configurations of a certain type are studied in generalized Yang–Mills theory in 4p dimensions (p=2,3,...). For all p, finite action solutions of the generalized self-duality equations with topological charge n=1,2,... are found. It is also shown that the self-duality equations are overdetermined, when other types of axial symmetry are imposed.

    Notizen: Zero modes of rotationally symmetric vortices in a hierarchy of generalized Abelian Higgs models are studied. Under the finite energy and the smoothness condition, it is shown, that in all models, n self-dual vortices superimposed at the origin have 2n modes. The relevance of these modes for vortex scattering is discussed: first, in the context of the slow-motion approximation; second, a corresponding Cauchy problem for an all head-on collision of n vortices is formulated. It is shown that the solution of this Cauchy problem has a π/n symmetry. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: Electromagnetic fields of solitons, which are expansions in a small parameter measuring the bandwidth of the radiation over the carrier frequency are studied herein. Conservation laws for energy and momentum are derived from Maxwell's equations using perturbation expansions in this small parameter. In this derivation, densities are averaged over half a period of the carrier wave, and certain symmetries of the susceptibility are exploited.     Notizen: Static vortices close together are studied for two different models in two-dimensional Euclidean space. In a simple model for one complex field, an expansion in the parameters describing the relative position of two vortices can be given in terms of trigonometric and exponential functions. The results are then compared to those of the Ginzburg–Landau theory of a superconductor in a magnetic field at the point between type-I and type-II superconductivity. For the angular dependence a similar pattern emerges in both models. The differences for the radial functions are studied up to third order. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.
