    Description: 〈p〉Liu 〈i〉et al〈/i〉. (Research Articles, 13 October 2017) inferred carbon flux anomalies in tropical continents with enough confidence to constrain the driving carbon-exchange processes. I show that they underestimated their error budget and that more effort must be invested in the satellite concentration retrievals and in the atmospheric transport models before such precision can be achieved.〈/p〉

    Implication of GAP in Ras-dependent transactivation of a polyoma enhancer sequence (1992)

    Description: Controversy exists as to whether the interaction of a guanosine triphosphatase activating protein (GAP) with Ras proteins functions both to initiate and to terminate Ras-dependent signaling events or only to terminate them. GAP-C, a carboxyl-terminal fragment of GAP that is sufficient to stimulate GTPase activity, inhibited the stimulation of transcription produced by some oncoproteins (v-Src, polyoma middle T, wild-type Ras, and oncogenic Ras) but not that produced by v-Mos. Wild-type GAP did not affect transcription induced by oncogenic Ras but reversed the inhibitory effect of GAP-C on transcription induced by oncogenic Ras.     Description: What are the components that control the assembly of subcellular organelles in eukaryotic cells? Although membranes can clearly be distorted by cytosolic factors, very little is known about the intrinsic mechanisms that control the biogenesis, shape, and organization of organellar membranes. Here, we found that the unconventional phospholipid lysobisphosphatidic acid (LBPA) could induce the formation of multivesicular liposomes that resembled the multivesicular endosomes that exist where this lipid is found in vivo. This process depended on the same pH gradient that exists across endosome membranes in vivo and was selectively controlled by Alix.
