Notes:
Summary The conservation-theorem derived here can be expressed thus: Let $$\vec v$$ be the absolute velocity and $$\vec \xi = curl\vec v$$ the absolute vorticity, further σ=σ(p) the specific volume of a barotropic fluid and ΔW the gradient of the actionW (=Hamilton's principal-function), then $$\frac{D}{{Dt}}\left\{ {\sigma {\text{ }}\vec \xi (\vec v - \nabla W)} \right\} = 0,$$ where $$\frac{D}{{Dt}}$$ denotes differentiation following the motion of the fluid.
