Notes: Raw, extruded (alone and a 50/50 blend with soybeans) or toasted mesquite (Prosopis spp.) pods were passed 1 and 4 times through an Alpine pin mill, and the resulting ground products separated into different sieve fractions. Protein concentration and recovery were maximum, and fiber content minimum, in the fines. Maximum protein concentration and recovery were obtained in both extrusion runs; of the remaining two runs, toasted pods gave higher protein recovery, but lower protein concentration in the fines, than raw pods.

Notes: Cottonseed/soybean blends (50/50) were ground in an Alpine pin mill with or without previous cooking in a Brady low-cost extruder. Free gossypol decreased with increasing amount of water added prior to extrusion and number of passes through the extruder. Available lysine increased with decreasing amount of added water but was unaffected by number of passes through the extruder. Type of soybean raw material utilized had no effect on free gossypol. Blends prepared from defatted cottonseed meal, however, had lower free gossypol than those made from cottonseed kernels. A blend similar to full-fat soy flour but of lower cost was prepared from unextruded 50% defatted cotton-seed meal/50% extruded soybean flakes, without added water, and ground in the Alpine mill.

Notes: Abstract This paper presents a method of deriving the wall moisture correction factor, for evaluating the air-dry resistance to heat flow of hollow block walls from the measured oven-dry resistance. Calculations have been performed for five types of block walls (with oven-dry resistances in the range of 0.3 to 1.0 m2 K/W), five concretes (with oven-dry thermal conductivity in the range of 1.42 to 0.24 W/m/K) and two types of mortar (lime-cementsand mortar and polymer mortar). Conclusions include recommendations for design values of constant wall moisture correction factors of 1.06 for regular aggregate hollow concrete blocks, and of 1.18 for lighweight aggregate concrete blocks.

Notes: [Auszug] The radio sources G357.7-0.1 and G5.3- 1.0 were observed with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory Very Large Array (VLA) in the spring and summer of 1984 at 20 and 6 cm utilizing the B-C and C-D hybrid configurations, preferable for sources at southern declinations as they produce a more ...

Notes: [Auszug] The radio emission from shell-type SNRs is understood to arise from particles accelerated at the shock front formed as a supernova blast-wave expands into the ambient medium. On achieving energies of 109?1011 eV, the electrons produce synchrotron radiation in the region of compressed magnetic ...

Notes: Abstract The X-ray properties of the supernova remnant G 29.7-0.3 are discussed based on spectral data from the EXOSAT satellite. In the 2 to 10 keV range a featureless power-law spectrum is obtained, the best-fit parameters being: energy spectral index α=-0.77, hydrogen column density on the line of sight NH=2.3.1022 cm−2. The incident X-ray flux from the source is (3.6±0.1) 1011 erg cm−2 s−1 in the 2 to 10 keV range corresponding to an intrinsic luminosity of about 2. 1036 erg s−1 for a distance of 19 kpc. The source was not seen with the imaging instrument thus constraining the hydrogen column density to be NH=(3.3 ±0.3) 1022 cm−2 and the energy spectral index α=1.0±0.15. This new observation is consistent with emission by a synchroton nebula presumably fed by an active pulsar. An upper limit of ∼ 1.5% for the pulsed fraction in the range of periods 32ms to 104 s has been obtained.
