Summary A brief review is given of the Italian publications concerning the studies of titrations in non-aqueous medium, particularly of pharmaceutical preparations. The studies discussed deal with: the titration of the acidic or alkaline function of isonicotinic acid hydrazide, of 65 other substances of various kinds, and also of anthraquinone derivatives; the possibility of determining dimethylaminoantipyrine and barbituric acid derivatives independently of each other; the possibility of determining caffein in the presence of acetylsalicylic acid; the application of the methods to aqueous solutions; the determination of these compounds in the presence of chlorine and iodine hydrates, iodides, etc. With reference to the increase in the potential breaks, which are always observed in the presence of an excess of acetic anhydride in the titrations with perchloric acid, the opinion is expressed that this may be due to the formation of a complex acid of high ionic activity having the formula [ClO4(CH3CO · O · OC · CH3)n]H.
