In connection with earlier obtained results concerning the influence of ascorbic acid + hydrogen peroxide the formation of an ascorbic acid hydrogen peroxide complex or an ascorbic acid peroxide is discussed, and a new quantitative experiment with a pectin solution, free from ascorbic acid, is reported.Other quantitative experiments have been carried out concerning the decarboxylation of diketogulonic acid and of pyruvic acid. The oxidative decarboxylation, which gives rise to the formation of acetic acid is compared with the hydrolytic (catalytic) decarboxylation. Also the activation which occurs during the oxidation of pyruvic acid seems to be caused by electrostatic induction of the hydrogen peroxide.

Im Anschulß an frühere Ergebnisse über den Einfluß von Ascorbinsäure (und anderen aci-Reduktonen) + Hydroperoxyd auf die Viskosität von Pektinlösungen wird die Bildung eines Ascorbinsäre-Hydroperoxyd-Komplexes besprochen, und ein neuer Oydationsversucht mit Ascorbinsäure-freier Pektinlösung mitgeteilt.Die weiteren Versuche konzentrieren sich auf die Decarboxylierung der Diketogulonsäuren und der Brenztraubensäure, und zwar wird die oxydative Decarboxylierung, bei welcher Essigsäure aus Brenztraubensäure entscteht, mit der hydrolytischen (ketalytischen) Decarboxylierung verglichen. Auch die bei der Oxydation der Brenztraubensäure eintretende Aktivierung des Hydroperoxydes wird auf einen elektrostatischen Induktionseffekt am Hydroperoxyd zurückgeführt.
