Notes: Summary A statistical investigation of the world-wide electric current-systems corresponding to s.c's has been carried out. The storm-time variationDst and the disturbance diurnal variationDs of s.c's are derived separately from the results of the average local-time variations in the magnetic field at different latitudes. A conspicuousDs current-system is found in the inner polar regions, and a concentrated current-flow is also confirmed along the geomagnetic equator resembling the current-system of an enhancedSq-field. The inner polar region currents flow towards the meridian at about 9h local-time and are supposed to complete their path along the outer auroral zone in opposite directions in the forenoon and afternoon hemispheres. It is of interest that the pattern of this atmospheric electric current-system is very similar to that caused by an electric doublet centred on the highiy conducting region near the pole. Some observed facts concerning the statistical nature of s.c's can be explained by these current-systems.

Notes: [Auszug] In order to trace any movement of the magnetic pole with increasing height, the above calculations were repeated on a much finer grid in the vicinity of the pole. Thus X, Y and H were computed for values of cos θ = 0.958, 0.962, 0.966, 0.970, 0.974 and 0.978, and φ = 256, 257, 258, 259 and 260 E. ...

Notes: [Auszug] It is a very real problem to find sources of heat beneath the ocean floors. The whole of the observed continental heat flow could be produced by the uranium, thorium and potassium contained in about 25 km. of granite. Granitic type rocks are almost completely absent under the oceans typical oceanic ...

Notes: [Auszug] The same data were then taken and the amplitude of every fluctuation divided by the Kp index at the time the observation was made. Plots were drawn of XfKp, Y/Kp and Z\KV against T. There was a very considerable reduction in the scatter, which was further reduced if local K indices (instead of Kp) ...

Notes: [Auszug] ABOUT two years ago, a detailed study of the thermal history of the Earth was begun at the University of Toronto. First results of this investigation have been presented at several meetings1. It should be emphasized that this study does not pretend to have determined the temperature and heat-flow ...

Notes: [Auszug] The only estimate of the melting-point temperature in the mantle is that due to U ±en6, who obtained a value of 5,000 K. at the core-mantle boundary. With the low melting-point temperatures in the core as indicated by Strong it is worth reconsidering the early history of the Earth's ...

Notes: [Auszug] GEOMAGNETIC micropulsations of nearly sinu-VJ soidal shape and with periods ranging from about 0-3 to 3 sec. have been called 'pearls'. The wave-trains usually exhibit beats-the envelope of a saquence of oscillations resembling a necklace of oval pearls. It is because of this resemblance that ...

Notes: [Auszug] We have devised a method for determination of myxovirus concentrations, based on the enzymic activity of the virus particles. The action of the virus enzyme-its ability to destroy the haemagglutination-inhibitory capacity of some mucoproteins or to elute the virus from red blood cells-always leads ...

Notes: [Auszug] A DETAILED investigation1 has been carried out on geomagnetic micropulsations recorded by rapid-run magnetograms during the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958), from seventeen observatories as widely distributed geographically as possible (see Table 1). The results from these seventeen ...
