Notes:
The physical nature of the volume correction, Cv used in the determination of turbidity by light-scattering measurements at 90° is reviewed, and errors and limitations in earlier formulations are pointed out. Formulations are given for three cases; viz., (I) when the height of the incident beam is within the central scattering volume, Vc; (II) when the field of view of the detector is completely within the beam: (III) the intermediate case when the vertical edges of the beam are in the excess volume, Ve. The volume correction is calculated for several geometries.
