Notes: Abstract It is shown that the Boltzmann equation of a dilute gas at temperatures above condensation includingLandau's quantum corrections of the streaming term results in a real equation of state. The quantum virial coefficients are given explicitly up to the fourth. A simple prescription for the higher ones is formulated. In the binary collision approximation, which basically underlies the transport equation itself, all virial coefficients can be expressed by correlated products of the real part of the two particle forward scattering amplitude. Averaging these with the free Maxwell distribution at temperatureT one getsB(T),C(T) etc.

Notes: Abstract The second quantum mechanical virial coefficient for a gas is given in the same approximation, in which the masterequation and the Boltzmann equation hold. The close connection between the macroscopic equations of motion and the equation of state of a real gas in equilibrium is shown. The virial coefficient of the Boltzmanngas is given in compact form by the real part of the forward scattering amplitude, weighed with the Boltzmann distribution at the given temperature.

Description / Table of Contents: The melting condensation of 2,4,6-Tri(hydroxymethyl)phenol results in a spatially formed polycondensate which contains phenol nuclei bonded by means of dimethylene ether bridges. This can be shown through quantitatively estimation of the resulting splitting products of the polycondensation. It can also be followed by the quantitative determination of bromine in the products of hydrolysis of the polycondensate with gaseous HBr. When the usual atomic distances and bond angles are taken into consideration, three nuclei-, four nuclei-, five nuclei-, six nuclei-, and higher nuclei-ring should exist. An example is given by a four nuclei-ring with the formula IIIβ. In addition, regular structures are detecttable among them an adamantan similar compound, a “band”-, honeycomb-structure and, therefrom, derived spatial structures. Finally, a structural description of the spatially so formed polycondensates is possible, which supports the results of the quantitatively followed polycondensation and also includes the steric reflections.

Description / Table of Contents: It is shown that the increase in hydrogen ion activity caused by the addition of neutral salts to solutions of polyphosphoric acids is based on the exchange of non-dissociated hydrogen ions of the polyphosphoric acids by cations of the salts added. Equilibria establishing between metal cations and protons follow the Rothmund equation which is also valid for solid ion exchangers. Equilibria constants for K+, NH+4, Na+, Li+, and Ba++ have been determined and show that the bonding strength of these ions increases in the indicated order.

Description / Table of Contents: The magnetic susceptibilities of the higher vanadium oxides in the temperature range from -196 to 900 °C have been measured in order to investigate the phase relationsships in the system VO1,5-VO2,5.The existence of discrete compounds, VO1,67, VO1,75, VO1,80, VO1,84, VO1,86, VO1,87, and VO2,17, indicated by X-ray studies by Andersson resp. Aebi, is reflected in the magnetic properties in different measure. Vanadium dioxide apparently possesses a very narrow homogeneity range (VO1,995-VO2,000) in which the temperature of the susceptibility jump characteristic for VO2 increases from 65 to 67,5 °C.The observed values of the constants of the Curie-Weiss-law are discussed.
