The preparation of CsNb4Cl11, CsNb4Br11 and RbNb4Cl11 is described. Especially the chlorides can be isolated by means of chemical transport reactions. The compounds are isotypic (space group Pmma, CsNb4Cl11: a = 16.19, b = 6.91, c = 6.67 Å; CsNb4Br11: a = 17.04, b = 7.31, c = 7.01 Å).The occurance of planar Nb4 clusters is an interesting feature of the structure. The compounds exhibit a slight temperature independent paramagnetism (χmol = 283 · 10-6 for CsNb4Cl11 and 384 · 10-6 cm3 mol-1 for CsNb4Br11). This can be discussed in terms of five metal-metal bonds being formed by ten d-electrons belonging to each Nb4 cluster.The hitherto known halides of niobium and tantalum with the oxidation number 2.5 contain octahedral Nb6 clusters.

Die Darstellung von CsNb4Cl11, CsNb4Br11 und RbNb4Cl11 wird beschrieben. Zur Isolierung der Chloride eignet sich besonders gut die Methode des chemischen Transports. Die Verbindungen sind isotyp (Raumgruppe Pmma, CsNb4Cl11: a = 16, 19, b = 6,91, c = 6,67 Å; CsNb4Br11: a = 17,04, b = 7,31, c = 7,01 Å).Neu ist das Auftreten von Nb4-Rauten. Der geringe temperaturunabhängige Paramagnetismus der Verbindungen (χMol = 283 · 10(-6 für CsNb4Cl11 und 384 · 10-6 cm3 Mol-1 für CsNb4Br11) kann mit der Ausbildung von fünf Metall-Metall-Bindungen in der Nb4-Raute erklärt werden.Die bisher bekannten Halogenide des Niobs und Tantals mit der Oxydationsstufe 2,5 enthalten oktaedrische Me6-Gruppen.
