Notes: Summary Chromosome aberrations in seedlings ofAllium cepa have been scored at different times after irradiation. Equal doses (136 “R”) of 14,2 MeV electrons were given at 5 and 53 mm depth within a Plexiglas phantom. The frequency of aberrations showed one maximum for 5 mm, two maxim for 53 mm irradiation which could have been correlated to G2 cells resp. S and G2 cells using H3-Thymidine.

Notes: Summary The study is devoted to the theory of economic growth and its relevance to pure and applied theory. It is maintained that by trying to explain the development of the factors of production the theory of growth represents an important generalization of the static theory of general equilibrium. The main conceptual categories and specific methods of growth theory are shown to be the examination of the existence and stability of growth equilibrium and of comparative dynamics. As far as applied theory is concerned the principle conclusions are the following: economic models devised to explain a country's economic development should be based on the theory of growth rather than on an entirely Keynesian business cycle approach. This does not seem to be generally realised, since the majority of macro-economic models is of basically Keynesian nature. On the other hand the theory of growth needs to be supplemented by a theory of business cycles, because the actual economic development exhibits growth as well as fluctuations. Although great stress is laid on the essential role of the growth theory in any attempt to explain a country's economic development, it is doubted whether the theory can as yet be usefully applied to practical situations. There remain a number of unsolved problems (of measurement etc.) typically connected with the theory of economic growth. While this may, for the time being, prevent the theory from being put to practical use, it in no way affects its basic validity.

Description / Table of Contents: An apparatus for volumetric measurement of gas uptake with an accuracy greater than ± 0,2 μl. is described. A maximum deviation from zero of 0,2 μl./h. is observed under blank conditions when measurements are made relative to a reference chamber to assure constant pressure. The instrument has an maximum effective capacity of 30 ml. substrate. The principal part of the apparatus is a capilliary manometer for pressure equilibration coupled to a micrometer piston which functions as a gas buret.

Description / Table of Contents: The spontaneous autoxidation of n-butyl methacrylate, i.e., the reaction of the monomer free of peroxides with oxygen in the dark without additional initiators, is a radical chain reaction. The reaction is started by radicals which are generated by an absolutely thermal primary reaction of n-butyl methacrylate and oxygen. At 50.0°C. The rate of this primary radical formation was found to be (1.0 ± 0.2)·10-8 mol·1-1·h-1.The spontaneous overall rate of autoxidation amounts to (3.0 ± 0.3)·10-5 mol·1-1·h-1 at the same temperature. In the course of the autoxidation reaction a polymeric n-butyl methacrylate peroxide is formed which further acts as an initiator for the autoxidation and causes a slightly autocatalytic course of the overall reaction. The decomposition constant of the polymeric peroxide amounts to (3.5 ± 0.2)·10-5 h-1 at 50.0°C.For determining those values it was necessary to measure the autoxidation of n-butylmethacrylate initiated by bis-azoisobutyronitrile. These results are also reported.A theoretical appendix deals with the autoxidation rate in relation with time. Besides of the values of the different reaction constants the particular form of this relation is considerably influenced by the concentration of an added initiator.
