    Notes: Abstract Solar X-rays from 8–12 Å have been observed with an ion chamber photometer and fluxes derived from the observations after an assumption concerning the spectral distribution. The time variation of the X-ray flux correlates well with the radio flux, plage index, and sunspot number. Comparisons of X-ray and optical events are given; flares seem to produce soft X-rays, but some soft X-ray bursts are apparently not associated with flares. The total energy involved in the soft X-ray bursts may be a significant amount of the total flare radiation.

    Notes: Abstract Soft solar X-rays (8 ⩽ gl ⩽ 12 Å) were observed from OSO-III. An analysis of the X-ray enhancements associated with 165 solar flares revealed that there is a tendency for a weak soft X-ray enhancement to precede the cm-λ burst and Hα flare. The peak soft X-ray flux follows the cm-λ peak by about 4 min, on the average. Additionally, it was found that flare-rich active centers tend to produce flares which are stronger X-ray and cm-λ emitters than are flares which take place in flare-poor active centers.

    Description / Table of Contents: The hitherto unknown CaCu2O3 was prepared and the structure determined by investigation of single crystal X-ray patterns: Orthorhombic symmetry, space group D2h13-Pmmn eith a = 9.85, b = 4.11 and c = 3.47 Å. Ca2+ has a distorted octahedral neighbourhood, the Cu2+ ion is surrounded by a square of four oxygens. The Cu/O network and its connexion with the Ca/O oktahedrons is discussed.
    Notes: Neu dargestellt wurde CaCu2O3. Die röntgenographische Untersuchung mit Einkristalldaten ergab orthorhombische Symmetrie, Raumgruppe D2h13-Pmmn mit a = 9,85, b = 4,11 und c = 3,47 Å. CaCu2O3 besitzt symmetrisch verzerrte Sauerstoffoktaeder um Ca2+ und fast quadratische Konfigurationen von O2- um Cu2+. Die Verknüpfung zwischen den in Richtung [100] deutlich gefalteten, längs [010] und [100] unendlich ausgedehnten Cu/O-Ebenen mit den Ca/O-Oktaedern wird eingehend diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Sr2CuO3 was prepared and the structure determined by investigation of single crystal X-ray patterns. It has an orthorhombic symmetry. The space group is D252h - Immm with a = 12,68, b = 3,91 and c = 3,48 Å. Sr2CuO3 shows isolated endless Cu/O-chains with a coplanar neighbourhood of four oxygens around copper and a trigonal oxygen neighbourhood of Sr2+. The systematical connection of the trigonal polygons building up the lattice is discussed.
    Notes: Sr2CuO3 wurde dargestellt und an Einkristallen röntgenorgaphisch untersucht. Es hat orthorhombische Symmetrie, Raumgruppe D252h - Immm, mit a = 12,688, b = 3,91 und c = 3,48 Å. Im Sr2CuO3 gibt es isolierte, eindimensionale unendliche Cu/O. Ketten, in denen das Cu2+-Ion eine quadratische und exakt planare Umegebung von O2--Ionen hat. Ketten entstehen durch die systematische Verknüpfung der trigonalen Sauerstoffprismen um Sr2+. Der Kristallbau wird eingehend diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: MnO2 reacts at about 470°C in inert atmosphere with molten KOH yielding by disproportionation K3MnO4 and KMnO2. The latter is obtained in almost pure state from the reaction of MnOOH with KOH at analogous conditions. MnO does not react.
    Notes: MnO2 reagiert in einer KOH-Schmelze bei ∼470° in Inertgasatmosphäre unter weitgehender Dispropotionierung zu K3MnO4 und KMnO4. Letzteres entsteht praktisch ausschließlich bei sonst gleichen Bedingungen aus MnOOH. MnO wird nicht verändert.

    Description / Table of Contents: A systematic study of the system La2O3—Yb2O3 at temperatures of 1650°C as well as above 2000°C shows besides the two well-known mixed crystals (hexagonal A- and cubic C-Form) the existence of a relatively wide perowskite phase in the range La2O3:Yb2O3 of 45:55 to 62:38 mole%. By aid of the “tolerance factor” (by GOLDSCHMIDT) it is possible to predict unknown perovskites of this type.
    Notes: Das System La2O3—Yb2O3 wurde bei 1650°C sowie oberhalb 2000°C systematisch untersucht. Neben bekannten Mischkristallphasen der hexagonalen A- und kubischen C-Form wurde eine relativ breite Perowskitphase zwischen (La2O3:Yb2O3) 45:55 und 62:38 Mol-% beobachtet. Aus den Phasengrenzen des Perowskits läßt sich mit Hilfe des „Toleranzfaktors“ (nach GOLDSCHMIDT) die Existenz noch unbekannter Perowskite dieses Typs abschätzen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Single crystals of LaYbO3 have been prepared at temperatures above 2200°C. The crystal structure of the orthorhombic distorted perovskite phase (a = 6.01, b = 5.81, C = 8.39 Å, space group C92v—Pna21) has been elucidated. LaYbO3 has resemblance to GdFeO3 and CdTiO3, but the identity of space group and atomic arrangement (except the position of one O2-) with the CdTiO3 type is accidental. LaYbO3 represents a hitherto unknown variant of the GdFeO3 type.
    Notes: Bei Temperaturen oberhalb 2200°C gelang die Darstellung von LaYbO3-Einkristallen. Von diesem orthorhombisch verzerrten Perowskit (a = 6,01; b = 5,81; c = 8,39 Å; Raumgruppe C92v—Pna21) wurde erstmals die Kristallstruktur bestimmt. LaYbO3 zeigt strukturell Åhnlichkeiten mit GdFeO3 und CdTiO3. Die Identität von Raumgruppe und Verteilung der Atomschwerpunkte (Ausnahme: eine Sauerstoffposition) mit CdTiO3 ist jedoch zufällig. LaYbO3 stellt eine bisher unbekannte Variante des GdFeO3-Typs dar.
