Notes:
Summary By means of autoradiographic techniques the incorporation of 3H-palmitic acid into the lipids of the optic tectum of the CNS and the liver of 23 Brachydanio rerio (Cyprinidae, Pisces) was investigated after incorporation periods ranging between 5 minutes and 16 days. 1. Following intraperitoneal injections the lipid tracer is incorporated at the same time into the fibrous part and the perikarya of the nervous tissue, that means in an other manner than the precursurs of DNA, RNA, proteins, orthophosphate on one hand and glucose on the other. 2. The ratio of activity in the fibers to that of the perikarya is not changed with increasing times. There is no transport of labeled lipids comparable to that of neuronal proteins. 3. 35–50% of labeling is washed out of the nervous tissue after treatment with chloroform, and 75–85% after pyridine extraction. 4. In the liver tissue the lipid metabolism is 4 to 5 times higher than that in the CNS.
