Notes:
Summary The behaviour of gas-chromatographic columns prepared by adding phosphoric acid to the liquid phase has been studied. It was found that they are only stable and efficient after dehydration. Therefore it was assumed that it would be more useful to wet the solid support directly with phosphoric acid, and then to finish the starting reaction by means of a thermal treatment. The water resulting from the dehydration was determined. The chromatographic properties of solid supports treated in such a way were studied according to the quantity of the phosphoric acid applied and to the temperature and duration of the termal treatment. They are better than the properties of the columns prepared by adding phosphoric acid to the liquid phase. A mixture of acetic acid, methyl acetate, and cyclohexane was used for testing the chromatographic properties.
