Conclusions 1. The special VT5-1 titanium alloy plate for osteosynthesis, developed by VNIIKhAI, affords stable fixation of the fragment in fracture of the tibia only in relation to the vertical (static) position. A change in the position of the patient's center of gravity relative to the neutral line of the plate may lead to movement of the fragments (due to loss of plate stability). 2. With this method of osteosynthesis, stable fixation of the fragments can be maintained, either by some additional form of immobilization of the extremity or by the use of metals or alloys of greater strength for preparation of the plates. 3. In practice, the plate can be used successfully for fractures of the tibia provided that the limb is kept immobilized in plaster until union occurs (2 1/2–3 1/2 months).
