Description / Table of Contents: On mixing 0.1-0.5 M sodium aluminate and silicate solutions at room temperature, X-ray amorphous gels of the composition 3 SiO2 · 1-1.2 Al2O3 · 1-1.2 Na2O · aq are precipitated. From their constant composition (not depending on the precipitation conditions), their properties, and the occurrence of uniform, dimeric silicate units in their acid dissolutions it is concluded that these gels are a definite compound. A structure model is proposed.

Description / Table of Contents: Degradation experiments on diluted aqueous solutions of hexakis-guanidinium tetraphosphate were carried out at 60°C. At pH 3-8 the tetraphosphate anions are degraded only by hydrolytic release of monophosphate ions, whereas at pH ≤ 3 cyclic trimetaphosphate is additionally formed. There is no evidence for a symmetric splitting into two molecules of diphosphate. Both these degradation reactions are catalytically accelerated by Mg2+ ions; at pH 8 complexes of the composition Mg6X6P4O13 (X = OH and/or Cl) are formed. In ammoniacal solutions of tetraphosphate in the presence of excess magnesia mixture, a phosphorylation of monophosphate anions, being either hydrolytically formed or added to the solution, to diphosphate is observed.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation, properties and structures of compounds P(OR)2F3 (R = CH3, C2H5, C6H5) are described. Acetonitrilic solutions contain these compounds as [P(OR)4]+ and [PF6]- ions. The methyl and ethyl compound also contain these ion types in the solid state, whereas the solid phenyl compound has a molecular structure.

Description / Table of Contents: By means of dioxane, trichloracetic acid, and water containing elution solvents it is possible to separate and identify, by paper chromatography, mono-, di-, cyclotri-, cyclotetra-, cyclohexa-, cycloocta-, and poly-silicate anions. Application of this method for solving some problems of silicate chemistry reveals that the condensation of 0.08 m monosilicic acid at pH 2 proceeds via cyclosilicic acids, that on concentrating an “Li2H2SiO4” solution cyclosilicate anions are formed, and that the compound Na2O · 2 CaO · 3 SiO2 is a cyclohexasilicate, Na4Ca4[Si6O18].
