Notes: [Auszug] THE results of the eclipse expeditions of 1919 and 1922 leave little doubt that the deflexion of 1.75″ predicted by Einstein for a ray of light passing close by the sun is a fact. Moreover, as a result of the experiments of Lebedew and Poynting, it is admitted generally that such a ray ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE object of this letter is to direct the attention of writers on Einstein's theory of gravitation to some recent experiments on the terrestrial aspects of gravitation which seem to have been overlooked, although they appear to be of great importance for the purpose of forming a just estimate ...

Description / Table of Contents: The IR and RAMAN spectra of (CH3)2(CH2X)SiH [X = Cl, Br, J], (CH3)2(CHX2)SiH [X = Cl] and (CH3)(CH2X)2SiH [X = Cl] are reported, and the frequencies assigned. A simple relation exists between the frequence of the SiH stretching vibration and the rate constant of the bromination of the SiH bond.

Description / Table of Contents: The alkaline solvolysis of some meta-substituted aryl silanes in ethanol/water was investigated by kinetic methods. The specific rate constants demonstrate a great influence of substituents which can be interpreted by means of TAFTS σº constants.

Description / Table of Contents: By reaction of SiCl4, CH3SiCl3 and C6H5SiCl3 with oxalie acid in solution of some ethers ((C2H5)2O, C4H8O2, C4H8O) substances of the compositions listed in “Inhaltsübersicht” are prepared. The interrelations between these different types of structure and their dependence on the nature of the participating ether are investigated.
    Notes: Durch Umsetzung von SiCl4, CH3SiCl3 und C6H5SiCl3 mit Oxalsäure in verschiedenen äthern ((C2H5)2O, C4H8O2, C4H8O) werden Produkte folgender Zusammensetzung dargestellt: \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ \begin{array}{*{20}c} {[{\rm Si}({\rm C}_2 {\rm O}_4 {\rm H})_2 ({\rm C}_2 {\rm O}_4) \cdot 2\,\mathop {\rm A}\limits^{..}]_{\rm n}} \hfill & {(\mathop {\rm A}\limits^{..} = \mathop {\rm A}\limits^{..}\rm ther)} \hfill \\ {[{\rm RSi}({\rm C}_2 {\rm O}_4 {\rm H})({\rm C}_2 {\rm O}_4) \cdot \mathop {\rm A}\limits^{..}]_{\rm n}} \hfill & {} \hfill \\ {[{\rm Si}({\rm C}_2 {\rm O}_4)_2 \cdot 2\,\mathop {\rm A}\limits^{..}]_{\rm n}.} \hfill & {} \hfill \\\end{array} $$\end{document}Die Beziehungen der unterschiedlichen Strukturtypen und ihre Abhängigkeit von der Art des beteiligten äthers werden untersucht.

Description / Table of Contents: In the reaction of SiCl4 with water or salt hydrates in diethyl ether an ether cleavage goes on parallel to the hydrolysis. Probably ether cleavage can be discussed as the reversal of the proton-catalysed equilibrium of ether formation from alcohol. In addition to various chlorosiloxanes, ethoxytrichlorosilane and higher-boiling ethoxychlorosiloxanes were obtained. Reports on the formation of trichlorosilanol and pentachlorodisiloxanol by these reactions could not be confirmed.

Description / Table of Contents: By reaction of triorgano-chloro-silanes, (X—C6H4)3SiCl (X = H, CH3, F, Cl, Br), with oxalic acid we succeeded in preparing the bis(triorganosilyl)-oxalates (X—C6H4)3Si—C2O4—Si(C6H4—X)3 with X = H, CH3, Br. Their thermal stabilities were investigated and correlated to the effects of substituents.

Description / Table of Contents: The reduction of SiBr4 with Mg was investigated regarding its yields in various solvent mixtures and compared with the solubility of MgBr2 in the corresponding solvents. The results - confirmed by IR spectra - show that the effect of solvent isn't based on weakening of the Si—Br bond but on dissolving the formed MgBr2.

Description / Table of Contents: Tetraalkyl-disilanes and tetraaryl-disilanes listed in “Inhaltsübersicht” are solvolysed in alkaline ethanol/water solutions. Solvolysis reactions of Si—H- and Si—Si bond proceed simultaneously and cannot be separated. The influence of organo-groups on the rates of solvolysis is determined.
