Notes: Abstract In the system CdO·xFe2O3 formed from co-precipitated and boiled hydroxides of Cadmium(II) and Iron(III) the following can be identified by X-ray study: atx≤0.8-besides the Cd(OH)2 phase-γ-Fe2O3, at 1.5≥x≥0.8 fine crystalline γ-Fe2O3 and traces of α-Fe2O3, at 4〉x〉1.5 both modifications, i.e. γ-Fe2O3 and α-Fe2O3, and atx〉4 only α-Fe2O3. The course of specific magnetisation as a function of composition confirms the X-ray findings.

Notes: Abstract The dissolution process of the system CdFe2O4/H+ has been examined in various concentrations of formic acid. Study of the reaction at 20°, 40°, and 60°C revealed large divergences between expected stoichiometricity in corresponding amounts of ions passing into the solution. The stoichiometry-like process has been achieved only by using 10m-HCOOH and the temperature of 60°C. X-ray identification of preparations after breaking off the dissolution process allowed to find besides cadmium ferrite another iron oxide phases, namely α-Fe2O3 and γ-Fe2O3.

Notes: Summary Present investigations cover the correlation between four characters of maternal plants of rye and the corresponding characters in their offspring. Tabulated results pertain to four two-year periods for the Exp. Sta. Choryń and two such periods for the Exp. Sta. Laski, involving several plant material groups derived from various crosses with Dańkowskie Selekcyjne rye. The effects of average grain weight per ear of the maternal plant on the corresponding yields in the offspring have proved rather small, but sporadically approaching or attaining the limits of significance. The influence of resistance to lodging of the maternal plant on that same character in the offspring has proved no greater, but, in spite of the considerable multidirectional differentiation of the coefficients of correlation and regression, in 4 groups out of a total of 27 they surpassed the limits of significance, sometimes attaining high values. In contrast to these two characters, but in agreement with expectations, there was a fairly pronounced effect of 1000 grain weight and of the maternal plant height on the same characters in the offspring. Significant coefficients of regression for the former characters ranged from 0.11 to 0.22 g, and for the latter from 0.03 to 0.37 cm. The present paper also includes less numerous results of analogous investigations on the relation of characters determined in the microtrials with those examined in the next generation. These results indicate good transmission of earliness, measured by the date of earing, and of the weight of 1000 grains, but a much weaker transmission of resistance to lodging and of grain yields. The conclusions drawn on breeding strategy suggest opportunities for efficient selection under the method of recombination towards short straw and a high 1000 grain weight within maternal plants, and also the advisability of shifting the main impact of selection for yield and resistance to lodging onto the following generations.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Aus einer Reihe gemeinsam gefällter und in siedendem Wasser gealterter Hydroxide, deren Mischungsverhältnis die Bildung von Cd x Fe1−x [Ni1−x Fe1+x ]O4-Ferriten möglich machte, wurden Präparate erhalten, welche charakteristische Sättigungs-Magnetísierungskurven zeigen.
Notes: Abstract From a series of coprecipitated hydroxides, aged by boiling in water, and in which the mixing proportions enabled the formation of Cd x Fe1−x [Ni1−x Fe1+x ]O4-ferrites, preparations were obtained which show characteristic saturation magnetization curves. X-ray analysis and magnetic studies showed that the primary ferromagnetism of these preparations must be assigned to γ-Fe2O3.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The solubility in 2n-HNO3 of the products of baking a mixture of ZnO and Fe2O3 between 500° and 1100° C was investigated. From the products of baking up to 600° C, Fe3+ does not dissolve, while Zn2+ dissolves easily. In products of sintering between 650° to 950° C the solubility of Zn2+ is still large, yet decreasing. The content of the solution on Fe3+ increases very strongly for temperatures up to 850° C and is appreciable even at 900° C. Above 950°C sintering temperature, the Fe3+ and Zn2+ content of the solution drops very strongly. The formation of ferrites in the range of 650° to 950° C was confirmed by X-ray powder methods. Above 1000° C fully developed zinc ferrite is found.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Preparations, which where obtained by baking mixtures of CdO and Fe2O3 between 500 and 1100°C, where investigated in regard to their solubilities in 2n-HNO3. Complete dissolution of Cd within short periods of time was observed for baking temperatures of 700°C. Above this temperature, the Cd2+-content of the solutions decreases slowly. Fe3+ dissolves out of preparations between 700 and 900°C. When heated above 900°, the Fe3+ content in solutions decreases. X-ray powder investigations showed a progressive process of ferrite formation, starting at 700°. Above 950°, a ferrite phase is formed.

Description / Table of Contents: The light and heavy γ -variety of iron hydroxide have been prepared by oxydation of Fe(OH)2 and Fe(OD)2 with air oxygen. The formation of cristalline γ - FeOOD proceeds only in a very limited range of temperature, Fe2+ concentration, and duration and velocity of the supplied air. Even at optimal conditions established experimentally the cristallites of the heavy variety are not as ideal as those of the light hydroxide prepared at the same circumstances.
