    Description / Table of Contents: Summary Procedures are described for the determination of iron impurities in titanium dioxide. Spectrophotometry, using bathophenanthroline or 1,10-phenanthroline, allows the determination of approximately 1, resp. 2 ppm of iron. Cathode-ray polarography permits the determination of as little as 2 ppm of iron using a direct procedure and 0.1 ppm after separation of the trace element from the matrix. The precision of the four methods described was tested on samples with known iron content. Various titanium dioxide products commercially available were analysed with satisfactory sensitivity and precision.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Vier Verfahren werden beschrieben zur Bestimmung von Eisenverunreinigungen in Titandioxid. Die Spektralphotometrie mit Bathophenanthrolin oder 1,10-Phenanthrolin erlaubt die Bestimmung von etwa 1 bzw. 2 ppm Eisen. Mit Hilfe der Kathodenstrahlpolarographie können 2 ppm direkt bzw. 0,1 ppm nach Trennung von der Matrix erfaßt werden. Die Genauigkeit der vier Verfahren wurde an Proben mit bekanntem Eisengehalt geprüft. Verschiedene handelsübliche Titandioxiderzeugnisse konnten mit befriedigender Empfindlichkeit und Genauigkeit analysiert werden.
