Conclusions 1. The absorption spectra of the derivatives of tetracyanoquinodimethan (TCNQ) with some organic dyes, and specifically with pinaverdol, diethylthiocyanine, dimethylethylthiocarbocyanine and methyl violet, were measured, both as solutions and as solid layers, in which connection the latter were obtained by rubbing the substance on a quartz backing. 2. The spectra of a solution of the simple salt represent a superimposition of the absorption bands of the TCNQ∸ ion and the bands of the starting dye, while in the case of the complex salt the band of the neutral TCNQ is also present. 3. The absorption band of the dye retains both its position and shape in the solution of its salt with TCNQ. For the solid layer these bands are characterized by their width, the position of the maxima, and the ratio of their intensities, which is associated with the effect of the steric factor.
