Three radical transients have been observed and assigned to the cation radical (λmax ≈ 490, 530 nm), the neutral radical with one—NCH3—CH2 moiety (λmax ≈ 480 nm) and the triphenyl methyl radical derivative (λmax ≈ 400 nm).

    Notizen: Carbon-13 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectra of PhenylfulgidesThe carbon-13 chemical shifts are determined in a series of phenylfulgides in order to investigate steric and electronic influences of substituents. By means of the shift differences between suitably substituted compounds results can be obtained as to the relative variation of the rotation angles of the phenyl rings as well as to te angle alterations between the exocyclic double bonds and the anhydride ring. Introducing 4-CH3O- and 4-NO2-groups at the phenyl rings the substituent induced alterations of the carbon-13 chemical shifts and the π-polarization effects related with it are discussed.

    Notizen: Electronic and Steric Substituent Influences on the U.V./VIS-Absorption Spectra of Phenylfulgide IsomersThe u.v./vis spectral data of a large number of phenylfulgides (E-, Z-, E-E-, E-Z-, Z-E-, Z-Z-isomers, 1.8a-dihydronaphthalenes) are presented. An increase of the number of phenyl rings as well as substitution of the phenyl rings cause correlatable bathochromic spectral shifts. Steric influences became obvious by introducing methyl groups, by coplanarization of phenyl groups and in the series of isomers. By means of PPP calculations shifts in position and/or intensity of absorption bands are ascribed to the substituent effects.The calculated band polarization of E(E-E)-isomers are in agreement with the results of polarization spectra in oriented liquid crystal mesophases. The polarization spectra allow the assignment of the longwave absorption band to the S2 ← S0 and S1 ← S0 electronic transitions for E-E-Isomers with a C2v-symmetry.

    Notizen: Direct and Sensitized Photoisomerization of α,δ-PhenylfulgidesThe photoreactions starting from the E- and E-E-isomers of mono-, di-, tri- and tetra-(substituted-)phenylfulgides are investigated. The phenylfulgides show strong steric interactions in the molecular framework. For that reason internal conversion is the main deactivation process which increases in the series of mono-, tri- and tetraphenylfulgides. The α,δ-di-(substituted-)-phenylfulgides show the highest photoreactivity. At room temperature in no case luminescence is observed from any E(E-E)-, Z(E-Z, Z-E)- or Z-Z-phenylfulgid isomer of the substances under study. Intersystem crossing cannot compete neither with thermal deactivation nor can it be observed by applying both the internal and external heavy atom effect. The phenylfulgides show typical ππ*-photoreactivity: in the singlet state E-Z-isomerization about one double bond competes with electrocyclic ring closure; in the triplet state only simultaneous E-Z-isomerization about the two double bonds is observed. The steric and electronic substituent influences on the photoreactivity are interpreted. A first qualitative model of the isomerization reactions of the fulgides in the excited states is established.

The bond relations in both amides are discussed. Strong intermolecular hydrogen-bonds are formed between the Se =O and NH bond.
    Notizen: Die Infrarotspektren der Verbindungen (CH2NH)2SeO und (CH3NH)2SeO werden mitgeteilt und über den Vergleich mit analogen Verbindungen zugeordnet. An Hand der IR-Spektren werden die Bindungsverhältnisse beider Verbindungen diskutiert. Die SeO-Bindung bildet mit der NH-Bindung starke intermolekulare Wasserstoffbrückenbindungen.

From (C6H5) 2SeBr3 and AgY (Y = N03, CH3CO3, CF3CO2, 1/2 SO4, CH3SO3, NCO) the compounds (C6H5) 2Se(NO3) 2 (C6H5) 2Se(CH3CO2) 2, (C6Hs) 2Se(CF3CO2) 2, (C6H5) 2SeSO4, (C6H5) 2Se(CH3SO3) 2 and (C6H5) 2Se(NCO) 2 are prepared. They are characterized by solubility, molecular weight and conductivity. Reaction of (C6H5) 3SeCl and AgX (X = NO3, CH3CO2) yields (C6H5) 3SeNO3 and (C6H5) 3SeCH3CO2.
    Notizen: Es wird das Reaktionsverhalten von (CsHs) 2SeBr2 und (C6H5) 3SeCl mit Silbersalzen von Säuren untersucht. Aus (C6H5) 2SeBr3 und AgY (Y = NO3, CH3CO2, CF3CO2, 1/2 SO4, CH3SO3, NCO) werden (C6H5) 2Se(NO3) 2 (C6H5) 2Se(CH3CO2) 2, (C6Hs) 2Se(CF3CO2) 2, (C6H5) 2SeSO4, (C6H5) 2Se(CH3SO3) 2 und (C6H5) 2Se(NCO) 2 dargestellt. Die Verbindungen werden durch ihr Löslichkeitsverhalten, durch ihre hydrolytische und thermische Beständigkeit sowie durch ihre Molmasse und ihre Leitfähigkeit charakterisiert. (C6H5) 3SeCl reagiert mit AgX (X = NO3, CH3CO2) zu (C6H5) 3SeNO3 und (C6H5) 3SeCH3CO2.

The thermic stability of the amides increases in the given order.
    Notizen: Durch die Umsetzung von [(CH3)2N]2SeO bzw. (RO)2 SeO mit NH3, CH3NH2 und H2N—(CH2)2—NH2 entstehen die Amide der selenigen Säure (NH2)2SeO, (CH3NH)2SeO und (CH2NH)2SeO, die nur bei tiefen Temperaturen beständig sind. Die thermische Stabilität der Amide nimmt in der angegebenen Reihenfolge zu.

Relations between Complex Stability, the Blue Shifting of the Iodine Band, and the Valence Force Constants of the Donor BondI2 molecules from 1:1 complexes with phosphoryl, thionyl and seleninyl compounds. The increase of the wave number of the visible iodine band which occurs on complex formation (blue shift) correlates linear with the free molar standard enthalpy of complex formation and with the ZO valence force constant of the donor molecule. These relations are discussed.
    Notizen: J2 bildet mit Phosphoryl-, Thionyl- und Seleninylverbindungen in CCl4 1:1-Komplexe. Die bei der Komplexbildung eintretende Wellenzahlerhöhung der sichtbaren Jodbande (Blauverschiebung) korreliert linear mit der freien molaren Standard- enthalpie der Komplexbildung und auch mit der Valenzkraftkonstanten der ZO-Donator-bindung. Diese Zusammenhänge und ihre Nützlichkeit werden diskutiert.

Reaction of C6H5Se(OCH3) 2 Br and AgNO3 yields C6H5Se(OCH3) 2NO3 which forms ionic crystals. (C6H5) 2Se(OCH3) 2 reacts with (C6H5) 2SeX2 forming (C6H5) 2Se(OCH3) X. The compounds are colourless or yellow-crystalline solids. A correlation exists between the number and nature of the substituents, the position of the Se—O and C—O valence vibrations of the Se—OCH3 groups, and the nature of the decomposition processes.
    Notizen: Bei der Reaktion von C6H5Se(OCH3) 3 mit C6HsSeX3 (X = Br, Cl) im Molverhältnis 2:1 bzw. 1:2 entstehen C6HsSe(OCH3) 2X bzw. C6H5Se(OCH3) X2. Aus C6HsSe(0CH3) 2Br und AgNO3 entsteht C6H5Se(OCH3) 2NO3. (C6H5) 2Se(OCH3)2reagiert mit (C6H5) 2SeX2 zu {CsH5}2Se(OCH3) X. Alle Verbindungen sind farblose bzw. gelbe kristalline Substanzen. Das Nitrat ist ionogen aufgebaut entsprechend der Formel [C6H5Se(OCH3) 2]+NO3. Es besteht ein Zusammenhang zwischen der Zahl und der Natur der Substituenten, der Lage der Se—O- und C—O-Valenzschwingungsbanden und der Natur der thermischen Zersetzungsprozesse.
