Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary It is histochemically demonstrable that within the eye ofCalliphora erythrocephala (males of the white-eyed mutant “chalky”) hydrolysis of ATP, ADP, IDP, GDP, AMP, and TPP takes place. The reactions of pigment, sensory, and Semper cells, of rhabdomes and of zones of the lamina ganglionaris depend on the composition of the incubation medium (with or without tartrate, manganese, and magnesium ions). As can be shown with α-naphthyleacetate as substrate, nonspecific esterase is located within pigment cells, within different zones of the lamina (graduated after Trujillo-Cenóz, 1965), and at tracheae and tracheoles. With acetylthiocholinjodide as substrate a specific reaction of some lamina-zones results.
