    Comparison and optimization of smoothing procedures for small-angle X-ray scattering curves. Polynomial fitting and modified frequency filtering (1979)

    Notes: The filter theory allows one to compare the efficiencies of smoothing procedures widely used in the field of small-angle X-ray scattering. This method is demonstrated for polynomial fitting and modified frequency filtering. Optimized and objective smoothing parameters are determined for both procedures through the knowledge of variance reduction factors, transfer functions of the filters, the largest value of the spatial frequencies of the scattering curve and the distortions caused by the smoothing procedures. The comparison of the efficiency of polynomial fitting and frequency filtering clearly shows the superiority of the latter; therefore, this method has to be preferred.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary For measurement of gaseous hydrocarbons in outside air, the samples are taken by means of enrichment of the hydrocarbons with a mobile collecting apparatus by which outside air is sucked through an absorption tube cooled to dry ice temperature. For analysis, this was heated and desorbed hydrocarbon components were demonstrated in a gas Chromatograph with flame ionization detector. The measurements were carried out at sites with different air quality. Emission concentrations in the range from 0.2–1000 ppb were found for the alkane, alkene and alkyne components. The measurements revealed that the hydrocarbon sources of the individual components emit with a characteristic composition. From the composition of the emission spectra, the influence of particular hydrocarbon sources at a measurement site can be estimated.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Zur Messung gasförmiger Kohlenwasserstoffe in Außenluft erfolgt die Probenahme mittels Anreicherung der Kohlenwasserstoffe mit einer mobilen Sammelapparatur, wobei Außenluft durch ein auf Trockeneistemperatur abgekühltes Adsorptionsröhrchen gesaugt wurde. Zur Analyse wurde dieses erhitzt und die desorbierten Kohlenwasserstoffkomponenten in einem Gaschromatographen mit Flammenionisationsdetektor nachgewiesen. Die Messungen wurden an Orten mit unterschiedlicher Luftqualität ausgeführt, wobei für die Alkan-, Alken- und Alkinkomponenten Immisionsskonzentrationen im Bereich von 0,2 bis 1000 ppb gefunden wurden. Die Messungen ergaben, daß die Kohlenwasserstoffquellen die einzelnen Komponenten in charakteristischer Zusammensetzung emittieren. Aus der Zusammensetzung des Immissionsspektrums kann der Einfluß bestimmter Kohlenwasserstoffquellen an einem Meßort abgeschätzt werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary A method for measurement of gaseous lead tetraalkyls in outside air was described. The lead alkyls were enriched by an adsorption technique at fluid air temperature. The collection arrangement consists of a prefilter, a preseparation cooling tract and an absorption tube. The lead alkyls accumulated there are released again by heating and determined with an atomic absorption spectrometer. With a collection volume of 200 l of air, there is a detection limit of 1 ng lead per m3 air. The confidence limits of the concentration data are better than 9.5%. The measured concentrations of the gaseous lead alkyls in outside air vary between 0.001 μg Pb/m3 in the Mittelgebirge near Frankfurt/Main and 0.2 μg Pb/m3 on a street heavy with traffic in the center of Frankfurt.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Eine Methode zur Messung gasförmiger Bleitetraalkyle in Außenluft wurde beschrieben. Die Anreicherung der Bleialkyle erfolgt durch eine Adsorptionstechnik bei Flüssigluft-Temperatur. Die Sammelanordnung besteht aus einem Vorfilter, einer Vorabscheidekühlfalle und einem Adsorptionsrohr. Die dort angereicherten Bleialkyle werden durch Erhitzen wieder freigesetzt und mit einem Atomabsorptionsspektrometer bestimmt. Bei einem Sammelvolumen von 200 l Luft ergibt sich eine Nachweisgrenze von 1 ng Pb pro m3 Luft. Die Vertrauensgrenzen der Konzentrationsangaben sind besser als 9,5%. Die gemessenen Konzentrationen der gasförmigen Bleialkyle in Außenluft schwanken zwischen 0,001 μg Pb/m3 in den Mittelgebirgen in der Nähe von Frankfurt am Main und 0,2 μg Pb/m3 an einer verkehrsreichen Straße der Innenstadt.

    Notes: Abstract We present a new method of thermal analysis based on the position change during melting of samples heated in an electromagnetic levitation coil. The temperature is measured with a two-colour pyrometer, subject to appropriate corrections. This method appears to be a useful complement to other investigations such as differential thermal analysis (DTA) or “simultaneous stepwise heating”. The technique has been applied to the determination of the melting temperatures of alloys in the Nb-rich part of the Nb-Ge system.

On the Reactivity of Tricyclopentadienyl-trinitrosyl-dimanganeseCp3Mn2(NO)3 (Cp = C5H5) reacts with LiAlH4/AlCl3 in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with formation of known Cp3Mn3(NO)4. The reaction of Cp3Mn2(NO)3 with LiC6 in THF yields Cp2(C6H5)Mn2(NO)3 in form of two geometric isomers. The i.r., 1H n.m.r., and mass spectra of the nitrosyl complexes are discussed.
    Notes: Cp3Mn2(NO)3 (Cp = C5H5) reagiert mit LiAlH4/AlCl3 in Tetrahydrofuran (THF) unter Bildung von bekanntem Cp3Mn3(NO)4. Die Umsetzung von Cp3Mn2(NO)3 mit LiC6H5 in THF liefert Cp2C6H5Mn2(NO)3 in Gestalt zweier geometrischer Isomerer. Die IR-, 1H-NMR- und Massenspektren der Nitrosylkomplexe werden diskutiert.
