Notes: Abstract Thermodynamic assessment of sulfur penetration through otherwise protective scales such as Cr2O3, Al2O3 has been carried out for Co-Cr- and Co-Cr-Al-base alloys. Limiting conditions for sulfide formation following gas molecular transport and solution-diffusion transport have been established and the results partially confirmed by experiments carried out on Co-10Cr, Co-25Cr, and Co-10Cr-5Al alloys in sulfurous atmospheres. The results show that molecular transport of sulfurous gas species through the growing oxide scale definitely occurs. It was not possible to confirm or disprove the solutiondiffusion mechanism.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Das Prinzip von Gyarmati wird in verschiedenen Arten für Wärmeleitphänomene formuliert.
Notes: Abstract Gyarmati's principle is formulated in various pictures for the heat conduction phenomenon in solid. Since the heat current density and the internal energy function can be given in three different pictures for heat conduction phenomena, we get the nine forms of the principle from which the heat conduction equation can be derived. This formulation has been shown using the generalized Γ picture. In the subsequent section the principle is formulated in proper Γ picture from which three proper pictures namely Fourier, entropy and energy follow.

Notes: Summary An all-glass improved vacuum collector for fungal spores is described and its merits mentioned. The description of the required components is also given. This vacuum collector combines the merits of smaller dimension and greater efficiency by accommodating Conway Diffusion cells in the spore receiving vessel.

Notes: Summary Triple test cross progenies resulting from the crossing of three testers (‘Kloka’, ‘UP 368’ and an f1 intermediate between them) and 24 varieties of bread wheat have been studied for plant height (cm), peduncle length (cm), ear length (cm), number of spikelets per spike and harvest index (ratio between economic and total yield). Epistasis was not significant for any of the characters studied. The testers were inadequate for plant height and for peduncle length although the testers varied considerably for these traits. Additive variance played a significant role in the inheritance of all the characters except number of spikelets per spike. The dominance variance was important for plant height, ear length and harvest index. The degree of dominance was in the over-dominance range for plant height. Complete dominance was operative for ear length, number of spikelets per spike and harvest index whereas for peduncle length only partial dominance was observed. The possibility of the isolation of the recombinants with high harvest index has been stressed.

Notes: Abstract Frequencies are computed for transitions in the NO+ ion which are expected to occur in the millimeter and infrared regions usually covered by millimeter-wave and infrared astronomy. The emission cross-sections and spontaneous emission rates of the microwave transitions of NO+ ion are presented. The NO+ molecule is likely to be detectable in low-temperature sources whose state temperatures are not greater than 15 K. Transition probabilities and oscillator strengths for the Δv=1, 2, 3 and 4 vibration-rotation bands are derived from published theoretical dipole moment functions, obtained by an accurate multi-configuration self-consistent field procedure, in the1∑ ground state of NO+ ion. On the basis of binary gas phase reactions, the formation and destruction of NO+ in interstellar space are also discussed.

Notes: Abstract Some weak unidentified solar photospheric lines in the wavelength range: (3400–3465) Å may be due to PH lines of the (0, 0) band of the PH(A 3 Π i - X 3 ∑-)system. These faint PH molecular lines have resulted an excitation temperature of the order of 4500 K. Using experimental lifetime data for PH in the A 3 Π i state, an absorption oscillator strength f 00 = 0.0075 is derived for the 3410 Å band of the PH (A 3 Π i - X 3 ∑-)system. Accurate line positions, oscillator strength and transition probability for the 4.4μ fundamental rotation-vibration band of the PH molecule are obtained. A comparison of positions of some lines of the 4.4μ band with those obtained on new tracings of high resolution solar spectra shows many coincidences with weak solar lines.

Notes: Abstract The effect of buoyancy force on laminar boundary layer in two dimensional flow and heat transfer along a semi-infinite vertical surface, when the velocity of the on-coming stream oscillates in magnitude about a steady mean, is analysed. Two separate solutions valid for low and high frequency ranges are developed. It is found that for low frequency oscillations the phase angles of oscillatory components of skin friction and the rate of heat transfer increase as the Grashof number increases. For very high frequencies, the velocity field is of shear-wave type unaffected by the mean flow; the phase lead in the skin friction is, then, π/4 and the rate of heat transfer fluctuation indicates a phase lag of π/2 over that of the free stream oscillations.
