Use of Inert Gas Fluorides for Preparation of Tetravalent LanthanoidesThe reaction of xenon fluorides and krypton difluoride with several compounds of lanthanoides yields compounds with tetravalent lanthanoides in some cases. Thus the tetrafluorides of Ce, Pr, Tb and also the heptafluoro complexes with cesium of tetravalent Ce, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy, and Tm were obtained. For investigation of the prepared compounds some physical and chemical methods were applied. The preparation of pure, thermoinstable PrF4 was only possible by krypton difluoride as oxidative fluorination agent. The formation of heptafluoro complexes of tetravalent thulium agrees with the theoretical prediction and is proofed by i.r. and magnetochemical measurements.

Die Reaktion der Xenonfluoride und des Kryptondifluorids mit verschiedenen Verbindungen der Lanthanoide ergibt in einigen Fällen Verbindungen mit vierwertigem Lanthanoid. So wurden Tetrafluoride des Ce, Pr, Tb und auch Heptafluorokomplexe mit Caesium von vierwertigem Ce, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy und Tm erhalten. Zur Untersuchung der erhaltenen Verbindungen wurden verschiedene physikalische und chemische Methoden angewandt. Die Gewinnung des reinen, thermisch instabilen Praseodymtetrafluorids wurde nur durch Kryptondifluorid als oxidativem Fluorierungsmittel möglich. Die Bildung des Heptafluorokomplexes des vierwertigen Thuliums stimmt mit der theoretischen Vorhersage Überein und wird durch die Ergebnisse der IR-spektroskopischen und magnetochemischen Untersuchungen belegt.
