Some observations on changes in weed populations under continuous cereal cropping and with différent methods of weed control

Notes: Abstract The system phenol-CCl4 was studied by measuring proton and deuteron magnetic relaxation rates and self-diffusion coefficients at 25°C. From these data intermolecular relaxation rates have been calculated. By means of an association parameter A, association of phenol molecules with respect to various parts of the molecule has been established. Closest distances of approach between protons and configurations of maximum occurrence probabilities are reported.

Notes: Abstract The second dissociation constant pK2 of 3-(N-morpholino)propanesulfonic acid (MOPS) has been determined at eight temperatures from 5 to 55°C by measurements of the emf of cells without liquid junction, utilizing hydrogen electrodes and silver–silver chloride electrodes. The pK2 has a value of 7.18 ± 0.001 at 25°C and 7.044 ± 0.002 at 37°C. The thermodynamic quantities ΔG°, ΔH°, ΔS°, and ΔC p o have been derived from the temperature coefficients of the pK 2. This buffer at ionic strength I = 0.16 mol-kg−1 close to that of blood serum, has been recommended as a useful secondary pH standard for measurements of physiological fluids. Five buffer solutions with the following compositions were prepared: (a) equimolal mixture of MOPS (0.05 mol-kg−1) + NaMOPS, (0.05 mol-kg−1); (b( MOPS (0.05 mol-kg−1) + NaMOPS (0.05 mol-kg−1) + NaCl (0.05 mol-kg−1); (c) MOPS (0.05 mol-kg−1) + NaMOPS (0.05 mol-kg−1); + NaCl (0.11mol-kg−1); (d) MOPS (0.08 mol-kg−1) + NaMOPS (0.08 mol-kg−1); and (e)MOPS (0.08 mol-kg−1) + NaMOPS (0.08 mol-kg−1) + NaCl (0.08 mol-kg−1).The pH values obtained by using the pH meter + glass electrode assembly are compared with those measured from a flow–junction calomel cell saturated with KCl (cell B), as well as those obtained from cell (A) without liquid junction at 25 and 37°C. The conventional values of the liquid junction potentials E j have been obtained at 25 and 37°C for the physiological phosphate reference solution as well as for the MOPS buffers (d) and (e) mentioned above.

Notes: Abstract The NMR signals of77Se or125Te have been measured in II–VI and IV–VI-compounds ZnSe, CdSe, HgSe, PbSe and ZnTe, CdTe, HgTe, PbTe relative to aqueous solutions of Na2SeO3 or K2TeO3. The chemical shifts of about −600 ppm for77Se and of about −2700 ppm for125Te have been compared with theoretical calculations. For77Se in hexagonal CdSe an anisotropic chemical shift has been observed and for125Te in CdTe and PbTe linesplittings have been found. The linewidths of the77Se and125Te NMR signals increase with the atomic number of the counterions.

Notes: Abstract A model representing a two- or a three-dimensional array of classical harmonic chains withnonlinear coupling between them is investigated. Physically real systems to which this model applies are discussed. The model exhibits soliton-like nonlinear modes. The influence of these nonlinear modes on the static and the dynamic correlation functions is calculated by generalizing techniques developed for strictly one-dimensional systems. In the static correlation functions these modes lead to minor quantitative changes only. In certain dynamic correlation functions, however, a central peak is found to occur due to the nonlinear modes. The total weight and the width of this peak are calculated for a real spin system.

Notes: Summary The relationship between stroke volume (SV) measured simultaneously by impedance cardiography (SV1) and echocardiography (SVE) has been analyzed. Change in stroke volume in 6 healthy volunteers was induced by passive head-up tilting (80°) and by oral administration of the sympathomimetic drug amezinium. A correlation ofr=0.83 (p j 0.01) was found between SVI and SVE calculated by the equation: SVE=16.0+(0.528×SVI). Though stroke volume is overestimated by impedance cardiography, the method may be useful for the clinical pharmacologist interested in a simple non-invasive tool to estimate stroke volume and change in it.
